I thought the point of this thread was for the people who are giving the advice to show what they are talking about?

And not by posting a link to Federer's or Wawrinka's Backhand.

I'm utterly disappointed with this thread. What a train wreck.

    Unsubscribed.

Wait just a darned tootin minute, are you saying that when asked to stop dispensing advice, and show that they knew how to do what they were telling others to do, the usual suspects just kept right on dispensing advise, and pontificating while posting no video?

    Who could have imagined?

LOL..yeah this has always bugged me. People like to dispense all this advice and argue litle details but can't get a decent video. It's 2013, buy a phone with a camera and bungee chord it to the fence for 5 minutes.

I have asked a lot of experts here to post video and they always say "soon.." or something but nobody ever does. :(

are you referring to me? sorry but i don't feel any pressure to post a vid. i said I would when i get around to it... and if i feel like it. if not, no big deal to me. if you or anyone else don't like the tips and opinions i provide then that's your right. no problem. I'm still going to give advide/tips/opinion when i feel like it because I like to help people and I also like debating about technique etc. It doesn't bother me in the slightest if someone disagrees with me. I enjoy the discussion.

i do admit you have a certain 'license' to dispense a little crap talk though because your vids are on display here and I commend you for that and you have decent strokes. But as long as we're talking crap, after looking at your vids I'm pretty confident I would double bagel you.

Crap talk is fine. No reason for some ppl to get personal and start dishing out insults however. Who cares if someone is wrong or you disagree with someone's opinion? That's life. Not everybody likes having their face online either for one reason or another. Also I don't think it's necessary to be a great player to give helpful advice either as leed has said. And if someone doesn't want to post their strokes then that's their choice. Deal with it. I don't believe their are rules on what you have to provide and demonstrate before you can post your opinion on how to hit a ball. Sure it would be nice but in this reality it's not mandatory. Stop being babies if you don't get your way.

Great strokes! You seem to hit the backhand better when your feet are wider apart. Better balance. :)

I agree with most of what you said, but, c'mon, the thread is called "put up or shut up" and it's about people giving advice without posting a video. By giving advice in THIS thread and not having a video, you were kind of asking for it.

    Question:

What does it mean when you have your index finger on the grip?

My coach tells me it's "beginners grip".

Actually, I don't think he actually covered on how to hold the racquet in a backhand motion the correct way....

dude, OP asking for vids of folks who are dispensing advice. You dispended plenty of advice but refused to post a video of yourself.

First you said you don't have a video camera, and if somebody were to lend you one you would allow yourself to be videotaped. Now, you are saying that you don't feel like video taping yourself.

Sounds to me like you talk the talk but can't walk the walk, or All hat and no cattle.

I'm picture some dude in a tricycle, with a big cowboy hat, wheeling around San Diego, yelling out to women "Hey, I'm hot, f''' me"

How do we know that you would double bageled Jolly?

I may be able to get to So Cal in July. I'm no Jolly, just a poor Old 0.0 NTRP MAC dude but I have plenty of video cams. we can set up multiple ones and Video tape ourselves. Are you willing?

    Let me guess your answer.
    "Sure Dennis, I'm in"
June 30th. "Uh Dennis , I'll be out of town so I can't make it"

The typical male response. The bigger the loser in life, the more they need to "be the expert and help others" when they are not qualified to help. The forum is perfect for them, captive audience with plenty of same threads, asking for advice, over and over again.

If you were really good, you would either be coaching or playing or so busy helping or volunteering in real life that you wouldn't have time to help on the boards. Don't believe the "I'm trying to help" line.

Now, I'm here just to laugh at people. I'm a bitter Old man, whose days of glory are decades behind him. My Most Improved Boy's Soph-Frosh tennis is but a distant memory. Without a single match recorded in TennisLink, soon I will fade like Tears in Rain. One day, while sitting on my chair, drinking my Double Big Gulp, I'll have a stroke and my last words will be "Rosebud"

my my.. you are bitter. As I recall you were the one who originally derailed this thread... and for future reference... derailing threads is a no no. we had a convo going in another thread where you were going on about your semi western grip backhand. you should have posted there.

i didn't refuse to do anything. in fact i said to rkelly twice last week we should film ourselves for TT.
And I said 'if i feel like it' which doesn't mean 'i don't feel like it'. but whatever... i'm unfazed by your attempts to get a mob mentality going. i don't care.

    sure. bring your cameras.

If you want to carry on your rant then you should do so in the other thread from here on out as we should leave this thread to commenting on vids posted as the OP had requested instead of arguing and making weird childish remarks about cowboy hats.

Whoa relax, Cheetah has played with multiple people on the boards-- suresh, rkelley, I think thejackal as well, maybe some others I don't know about. He's not some kind of mysterious unknown quantity and you don't really need to be challenging him to a duel.

Videos are fun, but there are plenty of strong players and experienced coaches here who haven't posted video. That's not a problem imo.

There's also some pretty questionable advice out there, but once you realize who the usual suspects are it's pretty easy to filter most of it out. Best way to avoid misinformation is to have real coaches and high-level players step in and correct it.

All I know is a bunch of guys talking about how to do something without posting videos demonstrating it. when asked to post vids your excuse was lame. I don't have a video. When I pointed out at you could purchase one for 30 bucks, you decided to not feel like it now.

So, now you're claiming you get double bageled Jolly, based on his vids. Again, if you are making these claims back it up.

Demonstrate in a vid the advice that you are giving in this thread.
Demonstrate that you can double bageled Jolly.

All I've read so far is a grown man who can't make a video and making lame excuses for it.

cheetah is a 4.5+ player and one of the very few I have seen in clubs who can hit "pro" level shots. By that I mean that while most club players are on this side of the line, he is on the other (pro) side of the line. Some of the shots he can hit are heavy sidespin and very very hard forehands which feel like a rock. He is also among the few who can at least try to explain what he does in technical terms like ssc.

Last year, we had a TW SD get-together in which he and others from US and Canada were present, including the guy who has hit with Filip Peliwo.

That is not to say anything bad about jolly. I think Jolly is an open player close to the futures level and I know he likes to have fun with the posters here who he thinks are rather low level.

I am very interested in the video, but not for the reasons you think. There was an intriguing conspiracy theory about who FF really is.

So, far the people who are posting vids are either asking for advice or have not given any advice.

Strange that all those who are giving advice are the ones who just so happens to not post videos demonstrating that they can at least demonstrate the advice they are giving.

Reminder, the topic of this thread is to post video demonstrating the advice you are giving on the topic of 1bh.

Talk is cheap. Making claims of doubled bageling somebody is cheap. do you seriously think an advice giver is credible if he makes claimns like "I'm going to double bageled you"

Why would real coach (i don't even know what that is) or high level player, waste their time here correcting the posters? It is a never ending toilet cleaning job.

4.5 is too low a line for "pro". 5.5 is one side of non-pro. 6.0 is pro and don't need a number.

    4.5 is an advanced amateur.

He is not a 4.5. I said 4.5+. I am not familiar with "true" 5.0s but he definitely is several notches above the "club" 4.5. It is a question of what shots he can hit which others can't. Remember many of us work full-time in stressful jobs (and for other people) so do not have the luxury of going around playing tournament after tournament at any time and place, like some of the "amateur pros" seem to do. I always wonder what professions they are in that allows that kind of time.

Now who would I prefer? Someone who posts video of himself but doesn't dispense advice, or someone who doesn't post video yet spends time to share his knowledge, expert or otherwise, to the general population who come here asking for help?

Would I want to see everyone's videos? Sure why not? Does their ability form the basis for whether or not they can give sound advice? Maybe a small part, but not necessarily.
