can u actually read my initial post? It wasn't my idea, it was valiants idea, i was purely stating the players that fit to his criteria players that have only won a single slam and never a finalist in a GS..... and Muster fits this criteria

once again there is no true definition of 'one hit wonder' perhaps you would like to enlighten us to your definition....

    his original post....

if you relate it in terms of music where the 'one hit wonder' term comes from, its probably the closest...

I don't even know why people are continuing with this thread. Because it's quite clear that Roddick and Hewitt aren't '1-hit wonders'.

Gaudio is a one hit wonder. Johansson got far in Wimbledon 2005 and pushed Roddick (no slouch on grass) to 4 tight sets and was unlucky to get the short straw. Gaudio hasn't won matches since 05 and his slam results outside his 'W' at the French Open are pretty pathetic for a former #5!

One hit wonders in tennis terms are players who won 1 slam, It has nothing ot do with the rest of their career.

Roberto Carretero and Albert Portas won 1 singles title in their ATP careers, both at a masters series tournament in Hamburg in 1996 and 2001 respectively. Although Portas did get as high as number 19 in the world while Carretero never got higher than 58, they are definitions of one-hit wonders.

That would be a 'one-slam wonder'.

yes but if you ask the general public if they have ever heard of them, they' probably say no...... so its hard to call their efforts a hit at all

Yeah I think one-hit wonders are those people who kind of accidentally succeed in something and become popular.. Although this can't maybe be said of tennis players since tennis requires hard work, so this saying works better with people around music.. But if you take it literally speaking, it would mean everyone whose grand slam count as of now is 1.

You could say Rios is a one hit wonder for reaching #1 and underachieving in slams

Goren Ivansevic for winning wimby '01 as a wild card entry

single GS winners who weren't finalists eg:Costa, Gaudio, Johansson,Krajicek, Muster, Gomez....

but after all that is said, neither Roddick nor Hewitt are one-hit wonders by any stretch of the imagination, im pretty sure we all agree about that.....

Agreed. It would be stupid to include this two players as a one-hit wonder.

Anyway, I'm done arguing with the dude from other forum. He's gone hiding somewhere now :D:D
