Does anyone know which string pattern (16/19 or 16/18) is better for producing topspin and why?

I believe both are pretty close in producing spin, but it depends on the frame. A lot of 16x19 come in larger heads(100in) while the 16x18 you see more often in 95ish frames.

To me the 16x19 frames gave more spin when I used them. I'm comparing them with the racquets that I personally have used, Babolat PD compared to Yonex RDX 500. I was definitely able to produce more spin with the PD, but my guess is that it has a lot to do with the frame. The yonex, altho a 16x18 has strings that are pretty close together.

the rdx500 obviously has a denser 16x18 pattern than the PD because it's 10 sq in. smaller.

to the OP, 16x18 and 16x19 won't have too much of a difference...both patterns are used on all types of frames and headsizes. unlike what Dopke stated, 16x19 is also found in smaller headsizes (ie. n6.1 tour 90). as for topspin, a 16x18 and a 16x19 pattern will have minimal differences because the mains are the ones that put the spin on the ball, so the extra cross won't do much. however, a 16x19 pattern on one racket may be more open than a 16x19 on another, so your best bet is to demo several rackets you have in mind and see which one produces the most spin.
