i'm debating to get one of these used and was wondering if the smart charger is worth buying? how does the standard charger work as opposed to a "smarter" one? what's wrong with leaving the standard one plugged in?

The smart charger knows when the battery is full and switches to trickle charge mode to avoid overcharge which will shorten the battery life. The standard one if left plugged in for too long will overcharge.

If you don't want to pay for the smart charger, just put the standard one on a timer.
