orange to green transition help

is there any coach willing to assess my son to be at Green ball level? My son has been playing on yellow balls for years but he's only 8.5yo. He tried out orange ball and hated it, it's not going anywhere. USTA decides that he has to play orange ball. Can someone help assess him to green ball level (I can send videos or live) so he can actually play in a somewhat normal tournament? I tried to find a local coach but no luck. Worse case, we have to wait until he turns 9 but that is still a long way away.

I was in the same situation when my son was at that age, he's 12 now. We sat out until he could compete with the regular balls. We got lucky and he was able to play a national level 6 12 and under with regular balls for his 1st tournament, and made to semi when he was 11. That helped, so he did not have to compete with green dots.

I do some coaching, so my son was still able to hit with older kids and practice with me. I know not everyone can do that. Unfortunately there's no way around the orange, then green balls if you want to participate in USTA events being under 12. This is a long game if your son have potential. Don't be in a rush to compete. Keep working on the foundation. If you have a good coach in your area, he/she would let you son practice up if he's good enough.

yeah, i'm in no rush. would be fun for him to play against other kids and he loved the idea but he refused to play/compete in orange (he hit some 10mins with orange balls). I mean i'm not going to force him into playing something he doesn't want to.

i have no issue with green balls progression to yellow balls but orange and below seem to be "everyone gets a ribbon" type of deals with "no winners", that's not even talking about the fact that hitting orange ball that wouldn't go anywhere is a horrible experience, that's not tennis.. i'm not sure what that sport is.

hmm so you can go straight to yellow? or do you have to wait until 11?

there are a few threads i've read with kids/parents not wanting to go through the color ball transitions... why is this such an issue?
it's supposed to make it easier to hit the ball, and encourages the kids to "hit out" with good technique
hitting orange ball that wouldn't go anywhere
is a good opportunity to get used to moving up and back

the answers are literally in those and this thread but if you refused to read and see the points then there is no reason you should be in these conversations. or just google and you'll see why.

Anyways, the post is to ask if someone can assess my son because I can't find anyone (went through 4 coaches) local has NET GENERATION software. no one had a use for it.

Most kids competing with regular balls are usually 12+ or bigger 10's that is good enough to be able to rally at a decent pace consistently. Most tournament directors will be reluctant to have kids 10 and under to compete against 12u kids, but possible. My son was about 10.5 before he was able to handle pace coming at him. Good 12u kids can hit pretty hard. You're welcome to send me a video clip bdang21 at Gmail.
