Are oversize clamps necessary for stringing? I ordered a Laserfibre MS200 ECO and I'm currently out to find myself all the extra tools and accessories I need hopefully before my new toy arrives. I was just wondering if oversize clamps were needed to string oversize racquets because I'm currently using a Head i.x5 oversize.

i risk revealing my ignorance...but i believe that the oversize clamps are not used specifically w/ oversized racquets. rather, they are larger clamps, often w/ more teeth, that have an advantage of having more surface gripping area, which may be useful to avoid string slippage, especially in high tension stringing.

the trend appears now toward fewer teeth clamps, perhaps because of improved manufacturing or technology. slippage is not as much an issue.

I am talking about floating clamps, but I was wondering about it in general. I noticed that the oversize clamps have huge teeth and my racquet's stringbed is not dense like my Mid size racquets so I was wondering if these clamps are a necessity. I guess I'll try stringing with my Laserfibre floating clamps first and then determine if they are needed.

No it is not required, you could use the clamps which comes with your machine, they will do the same job.

    156,

I use floating clamps when I string a fan pattern racket (Ektelon Model H with the guide rails). Mine are the larger kind and they can be difficult at times. Good Luck...
