looks like babolat got a little lazy with painting ivo's flexpoint instinct's because they are fading very obviously. watching the karlovic/stepanek match on espn, it was pretty visible in hd. looks like babolat needs to restock their supply of black paint :)

Surely you're not saying that he isn't really using a babolat are you?!

It does seem a bit lazy dosn't it.I always thought they'd of sanded off the old paint before putting the black on.

That is quiet a poor effort! I cant imagine Babolat paying him that much, he should just use a unstencilled racket or pay to have them properly blacked out

Are they real flexpoints on his rackets? If that were the case then it might be hard t o paint it.

Pretty pathetic from Babolat, Even with there priorities elsewhere, you'd still expect them to be able to black out frames sufficiently.

Thats sad, how hard is it to re-paint his rackets every once in a while? Honestly, I think he should leave Babolat, and play with a non-blacked out FlexPoint Instinct...

I agree this looks pretty tacky. Come on Dr. Evo... you can't throw down with sticks looking like that.

BTW, the handle looks very short. Is it short or does it just look like short because of huge grip size, something like 6 3/8 ?

I seen an interview with I think Nate Fergerson a few years ago when they shown his racket and he said the grip is huge and they cant even get the tourna any higher. I also met Karlovic in 07 at the nottingham open, im 6.2 and was under his shoulder, the guy is massive!

Why do you assume babolat handled the PJ?? we was playing with the APD - looks more like he took his old FP and a can of spray paint and went to town on his own.
Looks worse than what Laver did to his old Maxply's - at least Laver added some chemhold stickers to the gold paint.

lol, now it looks like a Kblade tour, just because of the way the paint has flaked, duh it's still a flexpoint instinct. That's really the worst paintjob i've ever seen. Definite an epic quality fail

There is no way that racquet is supposed to represent any current Babolat frame. I think the two line stencil is there only to suggest he is using a Babolat string. Otherwise he does not have a racquet sponsorship deal.

If it was for string, traditionally it would be thinner, lower stripes.

he uses lux alu-power mains and vs crosses. if the stencil was for strings, he would be using all babolat strings (hurricane/vs or whatever else). he's definitely still under contract with babolat for frames, i just have no idea why they didnt bother to paint his sticks for the first slam of the year......

ARE YOU GUYS DUMB??? He's only's using Babolat strings, that's why he has it stenciled there. Sampras, Goran, etc also used Babolat strings and they stenciled the logo on the strings too. But they never used Babolat racquets! Come on people! Have we dropped down a notch on the intelligence level here since I left?

He was put out in a short babolat press release less than a week before the AO saying that he's still a Babolat player using an apd. To prove it was up to date they also mentioned Tsonga. My first thought was that it was strings but according to Babolat, he's a frame/shoe sponsored player too.

Perhaps his frames just didn't arrive in time and he had to "black out" a Head in a rush job?

From the "handle size" pic posted below you can see an APDC PJ so it looks like they just didn't update it in time or something? You would have thought he would have staying with the old APDC PJ though that he played AO2009 with....

No. He signed with Babolat last year and actually used a APD for a while and then switched back to his Head stick blacked out and painted as a Bab a while ago. SO THEY ARE NOT DUMB no matter how much you use caps lock...

Not sure what the plans are for this year - but he is still representing as a Bab player.

    i'm still laughing at this.

I can just imagine his coach in a panic rush grabbing a rustoleum can and spray painting racquets in the Home Depot parking lot.

Maybe he gets his strings from Babolat, and not frames..

Many players used to put a Babolat stencil on their frames in the past, like Sampras, Becker ect...

    Its no biggie...

Well he had the Bab white lines painted on his Head stick for quite a while as well - but it looks like that flaked off as well. He was under contract with Bab as of last year - not sure if anything has changed but it still seems that he is representing as a sponsored player.

His racquets are really beat up in general. Many have the bumper guards worn down to the graphite. While many pros go through dozens of racquets a year he has been using these same ones for a long time now so clearly he does not have many of these FXP Instincts. The black racquet with the white stripes was a different racquet he tried for a while after giving the Aero a try, not a HEAD. I saw it up close last year and it had no flexpoints.

That was back in the day when almost everyone used gut that is very expensive and those guys were breaking it gasquet changes his overgrips. Sampras said that in one year he needed 700sets of vs gut, but he used 17 Gauge that lasted a lot less than 16 and 15.

I don't think that was the reason why he doesn't use the AeroPro Drive. He probably didn't like the racquet at all and wanted to go back to gis old one.

i believe you may be correct. i could never see him using an aero and liking it. i know that he has no racket deal with babolat that is standing or they would have had it painted to look like one of the pure storms. babolat would never let his racket look like that.

Thank you. Wow this place some times. Exactly what I've been saying all along. He is (was sponsored - not sure if anything has changed in the last few months) and he used the APD for a while then went back to his Head painted with Bab white lines like a Bab prototype or something. I don't know what the future holds for him - but since he's using the stencil he's representing Bab as sponsored player.

No worries dude. Karlovic never really endorses brands unless he is sponsored, so he is either still sponsored as a strings or racket player. I may be able to find out today actually. He seems like he has struggles to get a defo racket. He played fine with his old prestige when he dropped Hewitt at wimbledon in 2003, when Hewitt was defending champ and played his 1st round match!

just because he is sponsored dosnt mean he has reacket sponsors. i have said from the beggining it was only string and shoes. if it was the frame to there would be stripes on the side. i never said he wasnt sponsore by them .he is like samphras who also used there strings and carried the bab logo on the strings

He is sponsored by Babolat for racquets. He tried to use the Babolat AeroPro Drive Cortex.

They can't put the white Double line on the blacked out HEAD Flexpoint Instinct. I guess you don't remember the Dunlop-Safin incident.

Actually He did put the white double line on the HEAD Flexpoint Instinct and then stopped.

The Safin-Dunlop Incedent was: Safin signed a deal with Dunlop in 2001. But Dunlop could not make him a racquet he liked. So in 2002 Australian Open Dunlop put MuscleWeave 200G cosmetic on Safin's HEAD Prestige Classic 600 with C.A.P. System grommets (a big tip off what was under the paint). HEAD sued Dunlop. Quickly Safin's racquets were blacked out. Safin in the end went back and signed a deal with HEAD.
