I demo'ed the Head extreme pro yesterday and my palm is hurting after a couple hits. To be specific it is the area that is connecting to the thumb (not the joint though). I wonder if it is the grip of head racket being less round in shape, and I am holding it too close to the butt of the grip. Anyway, i can still feel it today.

How can I prevent something like this in the future? Was it the grip? Or something else?

I had this same problem when I had a 4 and 3/8 grip size after switching from 4 and 1/2; it hurt only for a few days then stopped after that...I think you just need to get used to the grip size or grip shape.

usually caused by grip size change (can be going bigger or smaller). one tends to try hold the racquet harder and this puts a lot more pressure on the thenar muscles (those connecting to the thumb that were mentioned). try to relax your grip a bit more and not swing so hard at the ball (try improve your timing).
