    Captains and Players:

It has come to the attention of USTA Eastern that teams have been using ineligible players in league matches.  The use of ineligible players is a violation of National Regulations and USTA Eastern Regulations requiring the default of matches played.  (See USTA Eastern Regulation definition of ineligible players below).  In addition to a default of the matches played, captains who condone the use of ineligible players may be suspended from league play.  League players who play under assumed names or allow ineligible players to use their name in playing may also be suspended.

If you are personally aware of a captain or player who has violated this rule you are to notify your local league coordinator or section league coordinator immediately.  This includes violations from past seasons. Please provide the date of the match and the specific ineligible player who was used.  To date, one player has already been suspended from league play.

Let's not lose sight that the purpose of USTA League play is to foster friendships and play fair competitive tennis.  The use of ineligible players to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent is contrary to this goal.  In addition, these ineligible matches affect all player computer ratings.  This type of behavior will not be condoned.

    Ineligible players are:

    1. players who are not current members of the USTA

    2. players who do not appear on the team roster

    3. players who play under assumed names

    4. those who falsify information, or

    5. players with existing ratings who obtain a second USTA number to re-rate

I don't have any problem with any of the above.

I hope they find the cheaters and kick them out.

There's a (maybe slight) difference between a "ringer" and a flat out "cheater". The 5 points mentioned in post #1 are impossible to justify under any scenario.
