So I started a petition to have Nike re-release the Air Oscillate (Sampras' sneakers). Here's the link:

    http://www.change.org/petitions/nike-inc-re-release-the-nike-air-oscillate-pete-sampras-signature-shoe?utm_source=guides&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=petition_created

With Nike making all these retro basketball sneakers, I think tennis players and fans would love it if they brought back these classic sneakers.

Please share this link with anyone else you think would be interested in signing this petition. The more signatures, the better chance we have of getting Nike to follow through on our request!

Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas about how to spread the cause to the rest of the tennis world.

    Cheers!
    -O.J.

I hate petitions like this, because most of the time they're useless.

That said, I really want the Oscillates to come back. The white/black, white/navy (clay), and black/red.

They were still in stock at TW within the last year.

TW did bring them back but they didn't sell very well so TW had to eventually put them on clearance for like $59, and even at that price they had them for a long time, presumably because they still didn't sell at that price. Thus, I would be surprised if TW brought them back again. IMO, the Air Oscillates are no match for the newer models.

I would love a release of the Nike Air Tech Challenge with technology updates.

Completely agree. I was a huge Air Oscillate fan but I have to say the newer models have them beat in many categories. I went from Oscillates to Vapor 9s and can honestly say they feel much lighter and maneuverable than the Oscillates, and still have the same slipper-like fit. I still wear my Oscillates to and from the courts, and sometimes for tennis-training (on-court workouts).

I don't think the reason that they had to put them on sale was because they didn't sell very well. I think they just had an abundance of left over non-common foot sizes left after they sold all of the other ones and they wanted to sell the ones they had left. That said, I will ask the people at Tennis Warehouse for some feedback.

As for more recent models being better, why can't Nike just update the Air Oscillate with their newer technologies(for example a synthetic leather/flywire upper, an XDR rubber outsole and a lunarlon footbed)? I would imagine it would be just as cheapto manufacture as some of their low-cost models.

Lightweight, slipper-like shoe but with new technologies? It already exists Sir.

This is the updated version of the Air Oscillate, take if or leave it.

Nike has little to no interest to multiply shoes lines. You have one heavy but durable shoe line, the Courballistec x.3, one lightweight but not durable shoe line, the Vapor, and one in-between, the Zoom Breathe line replaced by the Air Max Cage for performers. Over this they already have the CB x.1 line, the City Court line, the Cage Court line, the Air Serve Return line, the Zoom Coutlite 3 and Air Max Mirabella for womens... I can see why people would want old feeling racquets, but why would they want old shoes, especially for performance playing? I wouldn't mind the shoe, but I can't see why Nike would issue them again when they have better performers, or multiply again shoes line for that matter.

Yes, but as you pointed out they have the CB x.1, the City Court, the Cage Court and the Air Serve Return lines. Why couldn't they just replace one of those with the Air Oscillate? Or just do it as a one-off line again?

Nike reissues sneakers when they know they can make a reasonable profit off of them. For example, they still make Retro Jordans even though as you would argue, the sneakers are obsolete performance wise.

Sometimes people like the appearance/nostalgia of their sneakers more than just the functionality of them. Plus, if they could make them at a decent price (which I don't think is that much of a stretch), they could appeal to people who can't afford to pay $100+ dollars for the Court Ballistecs/Vapor Tours/Zoom Cage. (Similar to the low cost lines they have now)

Love the Oscillates. As someone who has 7 pairs from the early 2000s (including clay), these shoes are unlike the Vapor 9s.

LOVE the Vapor 9s, but it's a different feel. The Oscillates are truly slippers with a herringbone outsole. lol

And why would you replace new shoes with old shoes? And the Jordan line is a walking purse, really. That doesn't even compare to the tennis line. Especially since the guy who has his name on it has retired, so it makes sense to reissue shoes he wore at some point, that's his name on that line after all. The tennis line exists, is strong, but compared to the basketball, training, sportswear or football (soccer) line, that's peanuts. Even with Federer and Nadal out there. So yeah, you reissue old shoes for a bunch of fans, in a smaller branch than the others. I can't see the appeal. At least, I'd like to know from TW's mouth how the latest reissue went. EDIT: I'm not against the reissue of the shoes. I just can't see why they would do it again.

I still have a clay version deadstock in my closet, doubt I will ever use them as I've not played on clay in 20 years.

So I spoke with someone at TW about the last time they carried the Air Oscillates and she said the sales were really good and the customer response was really good also. I will post her actual response when I get a chance.

So help me out! It only takes 3 seconds to sign and I only need 83 more people to sign off on the petition. Every click helps!

P.S. Can somebody tell me how to get a picture in my profile?

PFFFFT! If anything, they should be reissuing the Nike Air Tech Challenge IIs that Agassi wore! But even better would be a reissue of both.

Nike does not pay any attention to what consumers want, so they will pay no attention to your petition. The same was done with the now totally defunct GHOAT. The Greatest Hat of All Time, crazy high demand for it, it would outsell the crappy Featherlights by far, and Nike refuses to make any more of them.

I don't see a market for those shoes at all. I remember TW had to reduce the price to 59 or 49 to get rid of them. U don't see the retro basketball shoes go that low.

No thanks. Total pipe dream. I'd rather see some of the early Fed shoes redone. Or some near the end of Hewitt's reign as #1.

Here's the response I got from Tennis Warehouse when I asked about the reissuance of the Air Oscillates:

"When the Nike Air Oscillate shoes were being sold, we did receive very positive feedback from our customers. These were a very comfortable shoe and met the needs of a lot of players while still maintaining a low price." (bold mine)

Pretty much sums up my point to why they should bring they should reissue them.
