Had a better career than his teammate John Alexander.

AO finalist in 74, RG semifinalist in 77 and Wimbledon QF in 77 and 80

    Good serve and big forehand.

Does anybody remember this classic player of the 70´s?

Recalling-wonder kiki, I only saw Phil Dent in doubles. But I know that he has a 3:11 hth against Rosewall . But Dent destroyed Muscles in the latter's "officially" last match at Sydney.

Dent was the guy Mac beat in a dramatic five setter at the 1977 W qf.Mac had to go through the qualies and was very sharp, but only 18.He gave Connors a big scarce in those unforgetable semis of 1977.

Remember wade stunning Evert? and the classic Borg vs Gerulaitis?

Dent and Alexander had a big press pressure for many aussies considered them the heritiers of the great generation of the 50 and 60.They failed...but who wouldn´t have failed to fill those shoes?

kiki, I remember Wade beating Evert. I enjoyed her win as Ginny was a top player but had not won really much before.

I was impressed by the great Borg/Gerulaitis match.

I'm still impressed also by the fact that the same Vitas lost to 43 years old Rosewall a few months later in straight sets at Sydney! I regard this as one of Kenny's outstanding feats.

Phil Dent also lost to Connors only in five sets in the 1974 Wimbledon.

Good shot at Dent vs Connors at Wimbledon 74.I really had gone through that.Connors also beat, correct me if wrong, Kodes,Hewitt,Alexander and Panatta, either at London or at New York.

Vitas played intervilles wih Kenny.Vitas worked a lot off courts and he and Ken became training mates.I recall some scerpts of a book that pointed exactly this...I´ll tell you later

kiki, Thanks. Connors beat Panatta and Kodes at Wimbledon and Alexander and Kodes at the US Open.

I'm always eager to learn Rosewall stories...

Vitas was a cookie young gun when he joined the New York Apples team, where Ken Rosewall played the senior role.Vitas wanted to impress Ken, whom he had great devotion (Vitas and Ashe are the most pro australian of the US players) and tried to out hit him in practices. But the quiet and calm Rosewall had had enough and without saying anything, hit a perfect cross court Bh so low, fast and deep that Vitas racket flew up.That was Rosewall firm but discret style.Like he did not want to hurt you, you know.

certainly do, philby could have been anything...
arguably a wasted talent. Haven't heard of him in years but know he keeps a low profile & has a tennis academy with his son, Taylor in the US.

JA was also a good player though, he won quite a few smaller tournaments and got to world no. 8 but apart from 2 SFs at AO in 1977, really struggled in slams. He was most effective on grass but also played a great DC in Italy on clay against Panatta & Bertolucci. From memory, Newk lost both his singles but aussies won the dubs. Possibly JA's best performance. His doubles was outstanding and he and Phil won lots.

JA is now a politician and it suits him better.

You may talk about the 76 rubber. In 77, Roche and Alexander dominated the italians on Sidney´s grass, 4-1.
