Go to dinner at Wildfire on Erie St then spend the rest of the evening at the Admiral Theater (adult entertainment) on Lawrence Ave and spent the night at the W hotel on Lake Shore Drive.

    Hey BlueGrasser-

    1. For music, your best bet would be to check the Chicago Reader Online to see who is playing where, during the time you will be in town. Chicago is a great city for every type of music under the sun, you are sure to find something that's yer flavor. lately, my personal tastes have been driving me to the old town school of folk music shows, they have quite a nice auditorium in the new building. The Park West is also a nice place to see a show. intimate, resonable prices, and not a bad seat in the house. There's a 20-30 small neigborhood bars that will book up and coming, or on the skids national acts on the weekends. these joints draw larger crowds than they can possibly handle (The empty bottle ect...) Unless you like standing in a packed, sweaty, bar for hours until the real band shows up at something like 11 or twelve midnight, I would avoid all of those.

    2. In terms of food, that really depends on your location. There is a big naval base way far north of the city proper, I think it's called Great Lakes Naval... something or other. If this IS your general location, I've spent quite a bit of time around the northern burbs of Evanston and Wilmette and could for sure give you a few pointers for the north shore. Evanston is about 20-30 min south of the base, depending of course on traffic.

If you are down in the loop, almost everything is good, with a few notable exceptions. Bad restaurants just don't last very long in the loop and near north area. competition is too stiff. Let me know if this is your area also, and I could get more specific for you.

    3. Then there are the things I do mostly when entertaining family in from out of town (and still really enjoy it)

    - The Shedd Aquarium

    - The Art Institute

Best regards to you and congratulations to you son. take care
