If the top 4.0 in the nation had coaching and solid sponsorships he could most likely play regional Challengers and go 2 rounds, maybe 3.

    Don't discount the 4.0 level.

It is higher than most people appreciate. Lee is correct. They hit pretty damn hard.

Then he wouldn't be a 4.0 any more.

    Of course not.
And every player had to go thru the ranks to make the top!
Adults have to win at C, then B, then A, then Open then .......
But at any point of the accension, they are the level they had been playing.
In this case, pick a top 4.0 who has some skills, not like YOU guys who have no shots worth keeping ( :):)). I had quickness and serve, and lefty.
If you have no special shots, forget it, go home, have your cheesecake.
But most top level 4.0's have some potential, and given good coaching and the opportuntiy to further his tennis, he has a CHANCE of playing Futures, Q's and Satelites with some success.
NOT every single top 4.0, you gotta select the ones with some skills.

You can be a 4.0 and execute sporadic GOAT shots and go deep in tourneys.

    Back in the day......
My regular tennis partner, for some reason, never made the semis of any C tourney, or 3.5 now. He was #2 for CCSF and #1 for SFState, no slouch of a player. He went 2 rounds in his first Q, one (first round loser) his second, and almost made the 1st round of the main his 4th try, in 1980. He lost in the Q finals to someone, I'd quit by then and was MX'in. He would have been lucky loser, but nobody dropped out.
No slouch, he won ChineseNationals at least twice, beating A level players.
He still never officially won a C tourney! I won one my second try, made the finals my first try.

No he wasn't. Juniors move through levels in a different way. At every point of time, Federer's technique would have been correct. He would have just added more power, spin, footwork etc as he progressed. A 4.0 has bad technique - that is why he is a 4.0.

I know 4.5s that have a better 2HBH than Fed's 2HBH. Feds two hander lacks depth and poise from the videos I've seen. It's a weak shot. It's ok to admit this as a bleeding heart *******.

    two things.

    1. I was kidding.

    2. What you say isn't actually true. There are plenty of ITN tournaments outside your silly little NTRP reality that mix juniors with adult players.
A recent local ITN 5/6 (ITN 4.5/4.0) tournament was actually won by a 12 year old, he beat a 28 year old 4.5 league singles player in a tight final.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Sureshs...
