only time on the men's side Open Era - Lendl d. Edberg 1990 AO

    http://www.nytimes.com/1990/01/29/sports/lendl-wins-title-as-edberg-pulls-out.html

"Ivan Lendl was handed the Australian Open title when a pulled abdominal muscle forced Stefan Edberg to retire from the Australian Open final late in the third set with the score, 4-6, 7-6, 5-2.

The strained muscle, which Edberg injured in the semifinals, hampered the Swede from the opening game of the match, restricting his movement around court.

''Maybe if I could have got that second set I could have bluffed my way through and won in three sets,'' Edberg said. ''But right after the second set I thought I wasn't going to last much longer. There's no way I could beat Ivan by staying back and not being able to serve.''

If for any reason Tipsarevic reaches one, he will retire.
