Please help. I used to use Gamma Pro RX replacement grip. Very thick and very good at absorbing schock. but it would shrink little by little over time due to gel or sponge being compressed down. This is VERY annoying, like playing with constantly shrinking grip over days to weeks.

So i changed to regular wilson replacement grip with no cushion. and now my Shoulder is Killing me. I had no idea that replacement grip made so much difference on absorbing shock.

Is there a gel replacement grip that doesn't shrink so quickly and lasts longer than Gamma Pro RX grip ? Something similar but doesn't shrink and annoy you.

Thank you so much for help

I have been using mine since around May'ish? and it hasn't shrunk too badly. Just a little shrink but still works great for me. I put in around 20 hours a week and its been holding up very well and feels good too.

Yea, yours is a Gel and other one is air foam foam. maybe gel is better at keeping its shape and not shrinking ? what do you think ? and you don't think you lose any feedback from the grip when you hit the ball ??

Comfort Hybrid felt basically the same as Pro Hybrid but I'm just judging it from the 2 hours of play with it from a demo.
You can try these Gamma replacement grips listed below. I haven't tryed these ones out but they seem pretty reliable.

Links above are grips i have not tryed yet so i can't give details about it. Reading customer reviews on these might help just a little bit.

Yeah, the Gel might have been more better at keeping shape. I don't think i lost feel, it played consistently for the past months and held up very well. For the low price of $3.50, I would have stocked up on plenty but i got mine at my local shop instead of TW. . . . They charged me $8.99 for it. Hitting the ball feels nice and solid.

Also judging from your signature, your currently using a Pure Drive 2012. Are you using a shock worm or absorber?

No, i do not use shock worm, it takes away too much feel from the string bed. maybe i will try the sampras dampner, but nothing seem to match a good vibration absorbing replacement grips from my experience.

and do you think that Gamma Gel replacement grip is as good as the Wilson one you use ? I was told that Gammas gel is kind of their top of the line replacement grip now.

what did this guy mean be careful when you are putting on the grip ?

"you have to b careful when you want to overlap the grip cause its very thin on the 1/8 inch for overlapping and if you're not careful the overlapping part will get bent to the inside of the grip, so watch that when you're turning it around the handle."

The feel I must say is excellent! It is very very soft and that gel is a miracle for sponginess. I believe it makes the handle so comfortable that u dont want to even add an overgrip on it. Definitely try it out and the price is very very low for a 6 pack if you buy more.

I'm not sure what hes talking about. But i just made mine as neat as possible without a bump going towards the inside. Just barely needed to overlap it to make it perfect.

Silicone might help also. ( I'm not sure if PD2012 has filled handles. ) I think there both pretty good. The Gamma one i had was shortly on my old racquet for a little bit because it got sold a couple days after. Later after i sold it, i decided to try something new and found the Shock Sheild and just loved it. So thats basically my story on how i got the replacement grip. I cannot compare both at this moment but from what i remember from the Gamma Gel replacement grip was that it didn't absorb as much shock compared to Shock Sheild. I'm using polys right now btw.

This Gamma Pro RX is what i was using that i really liked about shock absorption but hated the fact that it kept on shrinking as i used it and squeezed it. Wonder if it is similar to Wilson comfort grip. It also saids foam packing.

Also, if you don't mind losing a little bit of bevel feel, you can add 2 overgrips just to try out.

This particular customer thought that Wilson pro hybrid was crap. LOL but he loved the comfort grip.

"Very, very sticky and cushioned also. It is a nice blend of tackiness and feel, and I will only be using this grip from now on. It is honestly the most comfortable and amazing grip I have ever used. Thank you Wilson for coming out with a better grip than that crappy Pro Hybrid".

Hm. . . . Silicone might be the best side option with the Replacement grip.

I am a big fan of the Wilson Shock Shield. It is worth a try but I don't think it will be enough to solve arm problems with a Pure Drive.

I've been using Wilson Shock Shield. At first, it disturbed me a little that the thickness enlarged the grip by about half a size. However, it does seem to have shrunk down to something closer to a normal grip, and it's still very comfortable. TW sold them in sets of 3 for a very low price, and I'm glad I bought it. On the downside, every grip I bought had some blemishes along the sides that made it look sloppy. However, since I use an overgrip, this cosmetic flaw is not a big deal for me.

It does seem to improve comfort and shock in exchange for a slightly muted feel, but I have a Pro Kennex Kinetic frame. I think the Pure Drive will be more harsh no matter what grip you put on it, but if you have soft strings and a well cushioned grip, it might not be that bad.

I had no problems when i had Gamma Pro RX on. since i took it off due to annoying shrinking issue over weeks, i am having this problem. I am looking for something similar that stays its shape and not shrink over weeks.

Do you think Wilson stays its shape and size for a long time ?

How long did it take for it to shrink down to size ? if it shrinks too fast, i have problem with that.

Pretty fast. I'd say it's noticably smaller after about 2 hours of hitting. For me, I just think of that as break-in time (like trying on a new pair of tennis shoes). I have to endure a couple hours of tennis with a larger grip, but then it settles in to the size I wanted.

YUK, not good. do you think Wilson comfort grip above will retain its size much longer ? It is foam instead of gel.

I never tried Wilson Comfort. My educated guess tells me that something with an air-foam layer will probably compress.

Doesn't it bother you that the grip keeps shrinking while playing or day to day, keeps getting smaller and smaller and keeps changing. That is just too weird feeling to me.

It would bother me if it kept changing, but it doesn't. After the initial break-in period it stays the same size, and that works for me.

and initial breakin period is only 2 hours ? that seems fast. GAmma Pro RX grip, i had been using takes like 4-6 weeks of play before it shrinks so much, it stops shrinking. That is a long time to keep adjusting your feel

I've only used it for about 2 weeks, so I can't say for sure it won't shrink more. However, I know it's not shrinking fast like it did initially, and I know it doesn't have much longer to go because it already feels pretty close to the size of my original grip already.

I've used the gamma pro rx and the wilson shock shield grip. shock shield is better hands down. On the gamma pro rx your grip feels somewhat contoured due to the way gamma constructed the small middle gel part. The wilson shock shield has more gel and gives a more damped feel, it is basically superior in every way except that the gel is not visible.

I've personally discovered that i love leather though.

nastradamus - did you end up buying the wilson shock shield grip/gamma pro rx grip. If you've tried both which did you prefer?,
in terms of comfort, durability/good for sweat, can you still feel the bevel, vibration, feeling etc

As i was also looking at the wilson shock shield, but reading this the gamma looks attractive

    thanks

What about shrinking period ? Does Wilson Shock Shield shrink faster than Gamma pro RX or slower than Pro RX ?

and i put back on the Gamma pro RX on my racket because i found some leftover in my closet from before. and miracle of all miracles, my shoulder doesn't hurt anymore. I hit for 3 hours and my shoulder has no pain. Before when i had the regular thin grip on there, i couldn't even open the door after hitting for 2 hours. So this stuff does work.

Only thing i hate about is that it keep shrinking smaller and smaller every time i play a match. It is a feeling i just Hate. but if the trade off is no pain then i have no choice. :???:

By "takes away too much feel," what are you specifically trying to feel and how does this "feel" help? The only thing that occurs when you hit a tennis ball is a collision between a 60 gram ball and a 300-400 gram racquet with strings. That collision causes a series of shockwaves that travel up your hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. You want to feel that shock wave as strong as possible?

Anyone who wants no dampening (or damping) of the shockwave has simply gotten used to feeling that shock and equates it to simply being part of playing tennis. Those who have experimented with different setups prefer to have less shockwave "feel" as it provides no feedback other than the ball has been struck.

Some thoughts in this thread: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=423443

i am just wondering if you had to compare these both to Gamma pro RX grip. which will shrink down more ? From the looks of the schock shield, it isn't as thick as the Gamma pro RX. Gamma pro RX is pretty thick and shrinks down over even up to 4-6 weeks. but from the look of the pic above Wilson one doesn't seem to be as thick ? am i correct ?

by taking away too much feel , meaning vib dampner can take away too much of the Good feel. meaning you can lose the Feel for the ball on the string. so that you lose control on the touch shots like Drop shots and spin shots. That is what Babolat struggles with every year with cortex. they are trying to take away ALL the bad vibration that causes ARM pain but keep all the good vibrations that give us feedback on your hands from the string bed.

Based on the all the complaints we hear about Babolat racquets causing elbow problems, I think the word "struggles" is putting it mildly!

the comfort hybrid was comfortable in the beginning, but after weeks later. it get's compressed. not to the point that it's close to the replacement. I agree with Andyroo10567 with the shock shield

do you think shock shield does a good job without taking away too much feel ? and how long does shock shiel shield take to compress down and it stops compressing anymore ?

shock shield does muted the racket. not like the 2010 blxs. For feel wise, i prefer the comfort. after the comfort compresses, then you get the feel.
