Have you ever added lead tape at the finishing tape on the grip? Add a good amount there, It really makes the racket swing easily but also gives a good amount of mass to drive the ball.

No, I wanted it to be more head light so the best place for me to add weight was at the butt cap. What I've done now is just built the grip up to a size 5 and that has made it more head light but, unfortunately, has increased the swingweight more than I would like.

I'm in, I own 1 4 green stripes, which IMHO doesn't need any custmization, 2 straight shaft with 5g of lead (total) at 3 and 9 o'clock, and one tour edition, still waiting for its time to be played. All MID, PSGD @ 61 lbs.

    AndrewD,

Thanks much for the info I was asking about. Greatly appreciated.

I'll order a couple of the Mids, and post my own findings about balance and any other differences I feel, if any.

    Cheers!

That's okay mate, happy to help. I very much doubt you'll find any real difference in performance as the specs, on the midsize, haven't changed (pity it isn't the same with the OS). Just remember, if you're ordering from Tennis Warehouse you can ask them to match the specs on your current racquet.

I bought a POG OS ("Straight Shaft") used on the 'bay; the original owner, however, replaced the leather grip with a synthetic one. Will re-applying a leather grip make it more head-light? Thanks.

It will make it slightly more head light but you might not notice the difference.

Have a read of this post: you might find it interesting

So, that's a touch over 3 grams per point.

I received one of my Tour mids. Looks exactly like the Straight Shaft. Even under the leather grip.

    Hey, guys.
I just recently bought a single stripe prince original graphite midplus from tennis warehouse. From what i have read, you guys had said that the original was a lot better. Is there any way to make the new mid pog to play like the original pog 90? If so please do tell.

    Can I join the club?

Other than a brief affair with the crappy Diablo Midplus, I've used a POG (OS and then Mid) for the last 10 years. I am currently using the Tour edition. I tried the Diablo MP because I felt the POG OS was too big and the POG Mid too small. However, now that my game is evolving to more of an all court/S and V sort of game, a 93 in head is plenty big and I cannot see myself ever needing another racket. I didn't want to join the generic Prince club, because I couldn't care less about NXG, 03, speedports and all that other crap they talk about in there.

The older one is just more head heavy. Having said that one of my Tour-mids is lighter and more head heavy than my two Straight Shaft mids. The other Tour-mid I have is the same as my two Straight Shaft mids. I think you'll have to experiment with lead tape to find what plays well with you.

Put the lead tape on the face of the racquet. The only reason you would put it over the grommet holes is to make it look a bit neater. If you like, you can buy specially weighted strips that fit around the strings but dont require you to remove them.

Easier to just stick it on the outside of the frame

Thanks for the reply and advice. A stupid question but oh well. The Gamma swing weights perform as good as well as regular lead tape right? Lead tape= Lead swing weights? Just wondering, i am a noob at this stuff eh.

    Stringing Question!

Ok, so now like, I am thinking about re-stringing my POGOS with some thin Poly (Either SPPP or Pacific Poly Force or Force). I also just read Volandri's tension--28 lbs.

Now I wanna try that out. POGOS, strung with Pacific Poly at 28 lbs.

Anyone know what will it play like?

from my experiences, the swing weights are not as adhesive as the lead tape.
also, they are fixed weight, so if you won't be able to adjust and fine-tune your customization.

if you want to, you can put 1/4 inch lead tapes on either side of the racquet without taking the grommet off.

I picked a POG OS (4 stripe) off **** a weeks ago. The racquet has done wonders to my backhand which seems to work only on this racquet and no other. I am still trying to figure than one out.

BTE, it came strung with Gamma TNT2 16 string. Any recommendation on strings to improve feel and grip on ball is appreciated

Hi, I use the same racquet, I have found one of the strings I like the best is Gosen OG Sheep micro @ 65-67 lb's. Great spin , control.

It's actually my dad's racquet, but it is absolutely awesome. It takes practically no effort to hit short angled shots.

They have the same string pattern with the POG having a smaller head size. The result is a little less string movement but the difference is not all that much. Tension and string type plays a big part in how much the strings will move.

I have 5 of the current POG. I played with the POG in the mid to late 80s until Prince stopped making the racket for about a year and a half. I switched to the Prince Graphite II then and have used that racket until recently.

I now switched back to the POG and have 5 of them. The current version is great and I switched to it after trying many different rackets. To me it feels just like the POG of the 80s. I use the mid size. I string the racket with OG Sheep Micro 16 at 63-65lbs.

Please add me to the list.

The POG is a little more round that many of the current rackets (especially the mid). The Yonex, Dunlop, Wilson, and Tecnifibre line are all more oval or in the case of Yonex, more Isometric. I am so used to the shape of the Prince now and like the sweetspot on it.

Much has been said on these message boards about the quality control at different racket manufacturers and their ability to make rackets that weigh the same or close to it. In otherwords are their frames repeatedly the same. My experience with Prince on the 5 new versions of the POG mid is that all of them weigh exactly what the specs say they should or within one tenth of an ounce of the spec (spec is 11.6 oz and I think one of them weighs 11.7 oz. I would put Prince at the top of the list in terms of quality control at least as far as the POG mid is concerned.

2 POG oversize, Tour version here. The feeling when whipping through a forehand with the POG was a revelation for me, like no other frame I have tried. I still wish they had a 100 sq in version (27"), though.

Please add me to the club. I've been using a POG since the 80s. My first was a 1987 4 stripe 90 version that I abused and broke. My second was a Graphite II followed by a 1984 single stripe 90. I've been using the single stripe for the last 13 years or so. I have a 1987 OS 4 stripe version that I don't use in excellent condition. I just picked up another 1987 4 stripe 90 that I'll try. I prefer the 90s over the OS. I once tried an OS back in the 80s and I had such a loopy stroke that I would hit myself in the back of the knee w/ the OS and it would go flying from my hand on accident. This was the cause of great embarrassment since the racket wasn't mine and the owner that allowed me to give it a test drive was nearby. It happened more than once too.

The POG mid is the greatest! I've tried others just to go back. Most recently, I have been trying the NXG mid and it isn't bad. It's just not as good on mishits.

    Prince ProBlend @ 63lbs.

I owed the last generation graphite and that's the "Prince Triple Threat Graphite" love it and will stick with it, but a buddy of mine has two of the oringal POG with one stripe and four stripe i think and love it also when playing it. Alot of people may say that the Triple Threat Graphite may be light and for the younger people, and dont like like and never may want to try it. Some thing to address with it too like the "Babolat Aero Strike" its the lighter version of the Aero Pro Drive and yet you dont have much people using it cause i owed one too.

Has anyone found a good hybrid string setup with the POG mid? I typically string my rackets in the low to mid sixties but have never tried a hybrid setup.

I know this might be like committing a crime but has anyone taken the leather grip off of the POG and replaced it with the current, softer replacement grips? How does it change the feel of the POG? Better, worse? Thanks.
