Nadal had his Canas moment. Took a long sabbatical, came back to the game fully fit and confident, did very well for a few tournaments...but now things are settling....
    That's usually how it works.

Yep. Nadal plays lots and lots of tennis and loses, then it's an injury. Nadal plays sparely, manages his schedule well, is free of all injuries, then it's momentum and focus that he loses.
    No happy medium.

I don't even know where Nadal can build on the h2h right now. Usually, he met Djokovic a gazillion times on clay and almost never on other surfaces.

15 wins and counting. If Nadal doesn't chicken out after the FO again, Djokovic should even out this year.

Could this be 2011 all over again? Is Rafffffaaa's confidence shot or will winning Barcelona against a depleted field be enough to rev him up again?

Djokovic now has wins at the following big events against Nadal.

    AO
    IW
    Miami
    MC
    Madrid
    Rome
    W
    Canada
    Cincy
    USO
    Paris
    WTF

Only RG and Shanghai left, I believe.

NSK - So much for Nadal and Djokovic having the same H2H as Sampras and Agassi....

Novak will eventually even out and surpass Nadal I think. If they meet on hardcourts Djokovic should take it most times and on clay it might be 50/50 from here on out unless Nadal's form goes back up to usual.

I agree but it gives Ralph confidence to win on clay again.

Not to him. Look what winning those piddly tournaments in South America did for his confidence.

Interestingly Nadal actually leads Djokovic on indoor hardcourts 2 -1, I think. Yet, Djokovic has two WTF titles and Nadal has only one final.

    Based on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djokovic–Nadal_rivalry

    they're dead even with 2-2

Nadal won the 2007,2010 WTF RR matches
Djokovic beat nadal in Paris in 2009 and the WTF RR the same year

    circumstances ...

djoker played very poorly in YEC 2007 - losing to everyone , even worse than rafa in YEC 2009 ( when he lost to djoker )

in YEC 2010, it was even until 5 all in the first when djoker had some problems with his contact lenses ..

Yes, you are right! I totally forgot that!

I know there were circumstances, I agree with you. But then you could say Nadal was being used by everyone as a door mat in 2009, when Djokovic got his two wins in. I just find it interesting they are so close in those conditions.

Nadal vs Djok today at Monte Carlo looked so different than against everyone else this year- JMDP, Tsonga, etc. Once Nadal has control of the point there's no wrestling it away from him.
But against Djok, Nadal's topspin seemed to be strangely diminished today, didn't get up shoulder/head high, and elicited no weak backhand returns. It all seemed to be in Djok's comfort zone. His forehand DTL banana shot wasn't working as well as many other routine shots that he makes. Very strange, maybe Nadal is yet to find his 2012 confidence against Djok.

Don't think Nadal can play any better than he did today. Just not good enough that's all.

Djokovic has a back hand and he can last pretty much all it takes.

Always funny to read back threw these old posts. Since this thread was created, Rafa has won 3 of the 5 majors played. Djokovic has won the same number of majors as Bad_Knee and DropShotArtist in that time.

Nadal has now beaten Djokovic in the last 4 majors they met at. His previous record was 5.

I urge 5555 to start a thread about this..

You can keep the Murray got destroyed thread but this one is pure fail, especially when one has 14 slams.
