I have been serving (righty and with continential grip) with my serving arm more up and off to the right side of my body on the serve. My shoulder and back have been hurting for a while also. I took a lesson from a pro and he said that it is no wonder my arm/backs (pinched nerve in neck) hurts because I have actually gotten my serving arm off to the side instead of more in front of me on the serve. I was muscling the serve with mostly arm. He had me turn my shoulder more and for me lead more in front with the elbow then bringing the serving arm more forward. I will have to say that my arm is no longer killing me. I did have to open my hand up a little more. This allowed me to actually lean into the ball more. Can some of you good servers comment on how the serving arm should be position on the swing and should you actually lead with the elbow? Thanks
