Post some pictures of your city, specially if it's not very well known outside your country. If you are from some universally known city (New York, Paris or something like that) post some pictures of places you think are interesting but overlooked.

    Valencia, Spain:

The city center, I was born and went to school two streets away from these pictures:

Ye olde city center; the two remaining city gates from the middle ages. In one of them you can see what the Napoleonic cannons did. Of course the city grew and the gates are no longer in the edges.

    Some more:

Found the street I was born (well, I was born in a hospital, not right here on the asphalt I guess, but lived in this street after that):

The blue dome and the bell tower behind those smaller buildings, belong to the school I went, a catholic school which was build in the XVIII century I think:

A couple more from my early childhood's neighborhood, which is the old center:

Everything was so old there, I loved it. My actual neighborhood is OK, but not that cool.

NASA is a great place to visit in Houston. Another attraction is the annual tennis tournament here. Since 1931, River Oaks Country Club has hosted the River Oaks International Tennis Tournament. That tournament is the oldest in the U.S. to still played in the original stadium on the original site.

Memorial Park in Houston, Texas is a great place to go for a run, play tennis, or have a picnic. The 3 mile lap around the Park on a soft track is a place you'll find hundreds of avid runners every morning of the week.

Wow at the Houston rocket. Must be impressive to look at that from close.

Haha, no kidding, this must be one of the sunnier cities in Europe.

This is Valencia in 1925; I was googling some picture
and I lol'd at the sign which says "Alquiler de películas" ("Films to rent").
What the heck is that supposed to be?
I never thought that existed videoclubs in 1925! But apparently they did.

Thanks Dilettante. Valencia, Spain looks absolutely great! SoBad, New York is awesome. I refer to it as the "epitome of capitalism" and the architecture evidences that. Great thread. The 1925 picture is very interesting. It's fascinating to see big cities in past pictures. Even by 1925, the city looked very well developed.

Here's a great shopping spot in Houston, the Galleria on Westheimer. On the top floor is a very nice tennis club, with several indoor courts.

Thanks I agree this is a great thread! The 1925 Valencia is probably a truer reflection of Dilettante's state of mind!:D

Well, I'll leave that to Dilettante to answer, but that's funny SoBad! Speaking of the the mind though, this thread was a great idea. You know what they say, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I live in a very small town in the middle of a large woodland area. There are some amazing walks and wildlife, it's also the place where Tolkien got his inspiration for the Hobbit when he was based here in the war.

Really nice pictures, guys. I am impressed for some of the places you showed.

    Hahahaha, yeah.

    ......

Some more pictures; this is a small neighborhood in Valencia which has water instead of regular streets,
kind of a Little Venice. There are the houses, the sidewalk and right there, the water.
It's used as a marina, very, very nice place to have a walk.

I'd go out and take pictures of Mt. Prospect, IL, but 1. I don't have a decent camera and I hate using my phone for pictures and 2. it feels like -6 outside. :(

However, if anyone's willing to ship me a working DSLR as a late Christmas present...

Loved this. The kind of street I'd like to live in.

You've been here? Cool. Nice words, thank you! I think there are of course many prettier cities and towns in Spain, with more flavor and more cultural and which attract all the tourists, but I also think Valencia is very underrated. Or maybe the word is overlooked.

My wife and I visited Valencia in 2007. We hit Madrid; Cordoba; Sevilla; Valencia; a bunch of towns in Priorat; Tarragona and Barcelona.

Loved the old part of town; the beaches; paella; La Ciudad (I know it means city but you know what I mean). Good times.

Gotta love them, but you missed Toledo!

Yes, La Ciudad is doing more to attract tourists than the rest of the city put all together. It's the kind of place where everyone wants to take a picture when visiting Valencia; it's beautiful and also very big. Talking about it:

And inside this building (which is also in La Ciudad but stands out of the predecent pictures' view) was played the ATP tournament:

Düsseldorf can't compete with Sevilla, NY, or some of the other wonderful cities posted here. Honestly, I don't like it too much... but for ne next 20 years I'm bound to it. After retirement, I'll most probbly relocate myself, I guess it'll be somewhere in South Florida.
