I will play anyone in the Eastern Region who is also a USTA 4.5 or 4.0 if you want to play up and challenge my old soggy, dripping wet, filthy arse.

The event can be recorded and poasted.

It would be best to do this at NTC indoor since the spectator viewing area is perfect to film.

I propose Dennis provides live color commentary.

Theres my offer. Take it or leave it.

JD, I live in the UK.

Should've challenged me when I used to live in Da Burgh.

    Good times....

YellowOct...if you read my posts, I've posted every flaw in my serve motion. How would you serve at 62, sprained left ankle, haven't run in 3 years, can can't brush your teeth with your hitting hand?
Aphex, you're living in the past. The days of GreekGods ended back in the day...... You just suck.

No biggee, I'm a gimp anyways.
Went for a bigger jump than I can handle on a 25mph day with a new slalom board and no booties for the first time that year (2008). Foot slipped on landing, jammed inside the straps and twisted heel inwards, causing a sprain I've not come close to healing since. Keep sailing because the 57 degree water muted the pain, but upon landing, could not come close to walking towards my car, so I sat down until help arrived.
It' NOT the sprain that lowers my playing ability, it's the lack of conditioning by not being able to run, the atrophy in the left leg as a whole, and the hopping step I've adopted to compensate.

How long before it heals or will it completely heal? I can see where doubles makes more sense.

Yo, LeeD, you're in awesome shape for your age! Much respect.

Tennis players in general seem to age very well. Not just pros, but even guys who play a lot of recreational tennis. Saw some sprightly 80 year olds playing some doubles this morning.

I'm not really old, as some of you have alluded to, I"m just too often injured, so the pain from those injuries catch up to me on certain days.
I've accrued 3 lower leg breaks, 2 requiring full operations, pins, plates, screws, and wires.
    4 clavical breaks.
WAY more than 10 ribs broken
Couple shoulder separates and dislocates, tough to heal and serve a tennis ball.
6 outside fingers have been broken, 3 have pins in them.
I mentioned I can't come close to brushing my teeth or shaving with my left hand, and I'm lefty on the tennis court. Try serving with that rotator cuff.
But really, I'm more out of shape than old, or injured. It's hard to get in shape when the legs don't work right, the right hip likes to pop out of socket, and the left KNEE medial swells up from all the gimping I do.
Heck, after 1/2 hour of windsurfing, I can't walk up to my car, without a good 5 minute stretch and rest.

    Yeah, I look 62.
No 30-35 year old girl looks at me as potential b/f material.
    Certainly nobody younger.
G/f just turned 41, so I'm not doing so well.
Too much sun in my life. After 25 years of full time surfing, I decided to take up windsurfing 27 years ago, more sun.
    Eyes bloodshot from sun.
Can't run a block, jump a lick, do 3 pushups.

Oh, maybe he didn't BEAT the 5.5, the 5.5 took it too lightly, was surprised, and barfed up some bad tennis .......

meh. If you stay in shape and keeep your game up you can still be a top player late in years. For one match that is. Then you wake up next morning not able to move

Truer words have seldom been spoken! Not that I have ever played at that level, but just playing at any level can make the following day a late and slow rise.

Leed you sure its just a sprain. If it hasn't healed in 3 years it could be more serious. Mebbe ligament torn? Is it always swollen. Not that I am a doc but have had a history of joint injury.

    Thanks...
Every morning, it feels fine and there is no swelling.
Every PM, especially after heavy work, tennis, or windsurfing, the swelling frontside of ankle, just below inside of ankle bone comes back to haunt me.
ASO brace works fine for 2 doubles sets, then the swelling comes and it's just not kosher.
With almost 2.5 years of compensating, I've developed a left knee medial pain, a right hip dislocation at times (just about pops out, right on the verge, then with sitting down and pushing correctly, it slowly pops back in)...
It's OK, I enjoy doubles up to maybe 4.5 levels, can windsurf with the conservative best (meaning I don't do double front flips), and this year, first day in 5 years, got well over the sides of BorealRidge's halfpipe for single 180 spins both directions off both walls. Hiking the pipe was really cool, as the kids just marvel at the "old dude" with long hair.

g/f and I are on this sore topic.
Personally, haven't seen a dentist since Army induction in 1070. They barely looked in, as I volunteered on a 8 year enlistment.
Pulled 3 of my teeth 3 years ago, now kinda gunshy to pull 2 more loose teeth.
Have some dentist friends who volunteer to pull them for free, seeing as how I'm a nutcase about paying for dentistry.

Ah, I get it--What you say, not what you do.

Still, I didn't see the variety of serves you boasted to possess. All of the ones in this video are sliced serves, even the two service attempts when it seems like you were trying to put more topspin on it.

Also, 2 out of 8 serves actually went in; I'm assuming that you are a little off (everyone has their off days).

I wish this were true. Most tennis pros I know who are 60+ can barely move, due to ankle/knee/hip issues.
Those who are 70+ and playing sprightly typically are those who took up the game at 55.

Everyone has mentioned who they'd like to see play or play against. But which poster do you want in the umpire's chair? You just can't pick Woodrow, because he's a real one.

    My choice would be Papa.

LeeD, where was the Battle of Hastings? I know you were probably around twelve then, as normal military induction would be about 16 (1070), but please try to remember for us. There is so little evidence, and I would love to know what went on.

    Thanks for your response

Is that because of tennis or old age? Are they in worse shape than other, less active people?
I'm talking about former players, too. I'm amazed in other sports how quickly pro athletes let themselves go. It's probably because if you play football or baseball, after you retire, you're not going to play full field football and baseball pick up games several times a week just for fun. Pro tennis players seem to continue hitting more or less. I see them in the stands, and most of them are still in shape. Guys like Peter Lundgren and Alberto Mancini seem to be the exceptions that prove the rule, their chubbiness is startling. Today, they showed Carlos Moya and he still looked fit as a fiddle. Mac, too. Ken Rosewall and Jose Higueras are some of the fittest looking guys for their age on the planet. Mats, Lendl, Boris, Edberg, etc, they all look great.
