I tried PPA 16 black for the first time. I use a yt prestige pro ig. This was strung at 56lb.

I was absolutely loving the string and the tension. The grab on the ball, feel and power were phenomenal. This was better than expected for a $9 string!

I am a string breaker, but can usually go 8-10 hours on a string like this, and the main breaks somewhere around the middle. I broke this top main in the grommet on an overhead miss-hit. The ball had to hit dead on the two strings at the top of the frame. This was after 1 hour of playing with this string.

Was this a stringing error, an issue with the string, the grommet or simply the miss-hit?

I strung it myself on a kipper that I've had for 15 years. I've probably strung upwards of 300 times as I strung for my high school team 15 years ago. Realistically, the drop weight or clamps wouldn't have touched where this broke.

    Thoughts?

I had a very similar break with the same string on an IG Radical Pro at 62lbs after 2hrs. I put it down to a shanked shot and restrung with gut.

The break was purely doen to the miss hit. Poly's are susceptible to premature breakage on shanks close to the grommets. Seen it loads of times.

Of course, that is assuming your string is a poly, as looking at your picture, I think I can see filaments.

It's a shank, and it may or may not have had something to do with the grommets. I've tried several multis over the past 2 years and Premier Attack has consistently been one of the most durable. It's much more durable than NXT, for instance. If you like it, give it another shot. If the same thing happens again at the same place, it's most likely your grommets.

After like 12+ hours I had to cut them out. You will get tired of them before they break. Must be a really bad mishit or a faulty grommet.

Agree with the other posts: that kind of break is from a mis-hit and may or may not have something to do with your grommets.

Thanks. I just strung up nrg2 to try. I'll switch back to PPA next time around.

That is a shank break. I've done that a few times.

I'm interested to know your comparison between PPA and nrg2 as I have been using nrg2 for a long time. I heard that PPA spins the ball better?

    TIA

I finally got 3 hours with the NRG2 16. It was ok, but I was a little disappointed. There was nothing great about the string. It had a little too much power for me at 56lb, compared with the PPA 16 at the same tension. There was very little bite on the ball. There was not much in the way of crispness either.

I guess I'd call it a good soft semi-power string, but that's not what I'm after. I'm anxious to give the PPA another go. It's crispness and bite on the ball was great. In the hour before it popped, it was phenomenal.
