I watched Guillermo Garcia-Lopez take out a red-hot Todd Widom at Delray Beach and Garcia-Lopez looked tough as nails. He has a stunning one-handed backhand. It’s probably one of the hardest backhands on the tour.

I so wish my vacation hadn’t ended today and I had to leave Delray Beach to come back to miserable (weather-wise) Indiana.

Garcia-Lopez is my dark horse pick to win Delray. I hate to say it, but I think he will take out Agassi. I hope I have to eat my words but this Spaniard seems to be ready to make a big move this season.

Should be interesting. If you’re anywhere near the area go see the match.

he is super gifted but the pressure of playing Todd Widom is not the same as playing Dre. Dre is a lot of player's idol where I do not think Widom has to many people that can say that :)

I think the salient question is: Who the hell is Todd Widom and why is he red-hot?

Pat McEnroe is on suicide watch. He imagined Agassi would roll through the nonentities to impress the Captain. Another Davis Cup championship for Agassi. :D

    Agassi serves at 0-40
    Garcia-Lopez def Agassi 6-4 6-2

Indy sure can recognize talent when he sees it. Very nice prediction!

BTW, don't underestimate Widom; he's been accumulating atp points by winning many matches at Futures and Challengers. Do you think any joe club player can do that?

Yeah, you saw that one. Good prediction. Someone was paying attention, you must have seen something when he beat Dent at the Aussie. I've seen him practice in Spain with Ferrero and I always thought he had a solid ground game, maybe something similar to Gaudio, don't you think?

Well, this guy better break out this year because I don't want Agassi to have lost to some nobody.

    good call by Indy.

this is a catastrophe for AA.
G-L is qualifier level, or was last year.
he was beaten by all the Spaniards here in Montreal during training and is one of the smallest.

Dre is short for Andre. Agassi has weird losses, but I know of only one person to have a winning streak against him...Fed. He rarely gets beat twice in a row by the same person.

Congratulations, you were not only right but in emphatic fashion. Agassi just needs some more tournaments to get sharp, he is back playing that is the important thing, this first tournament will be a step, some matches, a bit of feel back hopefully, go from here, but alot of work left it appears.

Yeah I know what you mean. All Andre needs is keep going regardless and get back on his regular tourney schedule. Hopefully he'll be abit sharper on court.

Garcia-Lopez on beating Andre-It’s unbelievable,” Garcia-Lopez said. “It’s history to beat Agassi. For me, he’s the best.”

    Wow, nice prediction!

On second thought, is anyone else suspicious that this poster rigged the match to win millions through a casino?

What catastrophe? He took his six figure appearance fee and went home early to Steffi and the kids.

This is the problem with the guaranteed appearance fees. We can't know for sure whether the player has gone all out to win, or perhaps relaxed a little, ceased putting out that little extra effort because, "hey I have my payday anyway." And the worst of it is that most of the fans that paid good money for tickets aren't even aware that Andre got his money, win or lose.

If we are going to have appearance fees, then at least they should be tied to how far in the draw a player survives.

However, being the free market enthusiast that I am, I don't advocate a ban on them, but I do advocate widespread publicity that the players have been given the guarantees and how much they are in each instance. Then let the fans decide if they want to treat the contest as a true atheletic contest, or just one step above an exhibition.

What a turnaround for Garcia-Lopez this week. After beating Andre last week he lost to teenager Sam Querrey in the second round of a Dallas Challenger tournament.
This always happens when you think your game is getting good....

Really? That's great news! That's the one bear my grandmother is still missing in her collection.

    I wonder how much he costs . . . .
