OK, if you say you are the guy in black, then I can assume you are... but..
I'd kick that idiot instructor in the nuts! For starting before step 1, beginner tennis, and you are at least a 4.0 level player.
Talking to you like that, then having you perform such a basic backhand, total 2.5 level, is a waste of your time.
Now, the thumb thing is OK, but don't really hit like that, as you can injure youself using the thumb as the support structure. It should be the base of your thumb.

The instructor is oscar wegner.

Dozu uses his thumbs to pick his nose too. As well as support bezel 6 pressure.

    I KNOW it's Wegner, that's why I wrote what I did.
And if Uncle Toni told me how to hold a forehand grip, spent minutes showing me where to stand behind him and hold that grip, I'd kick HIM in the nuts too.

    ok coach Lee, duly noted;

coach arch, why the double standard? coach cheetah messes with people's swings all the time, you don't ask him to post video.

"coach" LeeD would never tell you how to hold a basic backhand grip, that is presumptuous.
LeeD would have you show him a few backhands, try to decide if the grip is close to reality, and work with you on hitting better backhands.
There are DOZENS of 1hbh backhand grips, and what works for one might not work for every single player.

I dunno. Assuming your dozu (?) We always troll each other. Been years. Its fun. Ill post a video actually of my new bh. Even if its against the wall. I don't like asking people if we can video. If my bh still sucks on video I'm going to go kill the coach I paid.

I don't think its him though. If it is I owe luv40 an apology. I thought I've been trolling dozu.

But in the video oscar had him hitting 1hbh instantly. Thats good in my book

Yeah, but that guy in the black shirt already could hit a good 1hbh before meeting Oscar.
Question is, does LuvForty hit a BETTER backhand now after meeting and paying Oscar?

Still gotta finish the house I"m living in, the windsurfing season has started, but was thinking of hitting LA for a windsurf board I was thinking of...to make 35 total..:(:(
500 miles round trip, 9 miles a gallon, seems a little pricey for someone living on 560 a month.

Board in question is a 116 JPSupercross, circa 2005, in good condition.
Unfortunately, my g/f seems to be headed towards Formula windsurf racing, and I might need a Formula board to keep upwind and downwind angles.
    1,000 miles at 9 mpg
Paying $450 for gas to buy a used $250 board doesn't make economic sense, at least not now that I am older and hopefully wiser.
Yaz or Kiteboard might mysteriously appear at the SanPablo courts someday. I'll post when it happens.

If I"m still with current g/f, I'll be again in PuertoRico for a month during those holidays.
If not, I'll be in Baja with the backup.

0-40, you are correct. The pressure point on the 1 hander is the heel of the thumb. I have been consciously monitoring this the last few days. You should be a coach as you have real insights that make a difference.

Dozu is not fixing anything. He is all excited now to be my coach. But it would be ironic if he spots something and turns me into guga. Then we actually play and I own him. Ttw justice!

If your in LA the same time we can go play with suresh and cheetahs. And video the elusive suresh. He is probably aaron krikstein lol.

This thread went off road somewhere. Hard to glean the advice in here, but in seriousness, is there a general consensus on the pressure points for the one hander, with an eastern grip? I found the below website with a pretty cool visual display of the different grips. What do you think?

coach frog - I am an honorable man... I have the genuine intention to fix coach arch's bh.

coach arch - I am being serious here - I have the secrets to the low maintenance bh that you can use effectively without hitting a year of balls.... it is a combination of Wegner's teach plus Toly's biomechanics theories.

and speaking of Krikstein, the 115 serve guy was on the tour with him, I was not kidding you when I say I receive 115 all the time.

this is a great find, coach AYone !

it's pretty much right on... I use a slightly more neutral version so the thumb middle joint is pushing on b6... so as a 40+ guy I don't need to bend knees down too much to dig up low slices.

but what's in the video definitely works!

however, there is a KEY piece of info there that's misleading perhaps about the supination... and I will reveal this secret after coach arch posts his bh.

That's nice and all but I already hit a year of balls. You now want to change my bh again? Over the internet? No way you can fix my bh flaws if there are any serious enough now that warrant a revamp over internet. I'm not that bad a player. Also lots of pros even do not have perfect bhs but they work. It seems very arrogant of you. I still think you should actually demonstrate your teachings here so we can judge. Spill the beans man. Or stop hinting at some secret sauce.

So you learned your bh from a bunch of squigles and pictures and random videos on the internet? From toly? And you expect me to actually take you seriously? Do you even read what you write? You sound like a lunatic.

As far as pros I have you beat. I've actually played matches when I was 13, 14, 15, against sampras, chang, courier. Among others. I've even played tracy austin back then.

That's basically a fed grip. The grip I use. What's the big deal? Grab racket. Hit a bunch of tennis balls.

    Arche,
You seem to have forgotten that dozu just learned about supination about 2 months ago here on tt and he also thought that it was a new development in bh technique pioneered by dmitrov and wawrinka until I posted videos of players decades ago using it so don't expect him to give you any insight on your bh.

coach cheetah, you are putting words in my mouth.

also, according to coach arche3, you are supposed to post video first, before giving out advice like above, plus making people shooting fh photos from their living rooms etc.

oh well - if arche3 doesn't want to get his bh looked at, it's his loss.

Also... cheetah got some dude to post vids from his livingroom. Thats epic coaching skills. Its hard enough to get a real video from people.

Played two hours of tennis right now. Tried to feel where my hand pressure was on bh. It is on 7, 8. And it is also on 6. Where my thumb hooks. Balanced between all.

Your thumb, or the BASE of your thumb?
My thinking it's the latter, although Oscar says to start with the thumb itself.

    Better idea...
Why not just state your NTRP level, and the level of the crowd you play with?
    Arche3 .... 4.5, opponent's 4-5.5.
