I have done several google searches and am unable to locate this unusual butt cap. What would this type of cap be called? And is there a place I could purchase one?

Why not just put a new Prince cap on it? The new should fit.

The whole handle part is a rubber grip over the rectangle. So, it's not a normal grip.

Thanks for response though. I will call TW tomorrow.

Good luck! Ca 1991, we saw quite a few of these handles fall apart and VERY few repaired without sending the racket back to Prince. It was a major fiasco affecting a very popular line of rackets. PITA as they say, since most consumers thought the handle could be repaired like a 'normal' handle on virtually every other brand of stick. The 'rubber' grip 'pallet' was a dumb idea, surpassed in dumbness only by the brittle butt cap.

Some enterprising racket nerd MAY have come up with a plan, but it would be a lousy job to take on with a 20 year old racket. :(

This was the Graduate, Lightning, ?Storm? series of rackets from Prince. Horrible, horrible design.

Did I mention it was a bad design?

I happen to be one of those nerds that will figure something out. But, of course it will be for personal benefit.

    And yes, horrible design.

I would be very interested in seeing a picture of the rubber handle. Thanks.

I've seen one with perforated rubber. I wonder if it's the same.

I am very familiar with this butt cap. There is *zero* current aftermarket butt cap available to fix this because it is not really a butt cap. It's just the "cap" portion with plastic wings that insert into the handle.

However, there is an easy fix. You just have to find another CTS frame of that era with the same size butt cap still intact. The Lightning is compatible with the CTS Thunderstick, Graduate, Approach and Precision frames. Do *not* assume all CTS frames work. That is false, only the Gen 1 frames will work. You cannabilize the other frame for the butt cap. All you need to do is cut off the rubber pallet off the donor frame, and slowly remove the butt and install it on your Lightning. It's pretty easy. I just used glue and pounded a couple nails in and it's back to normal.
