I have 3 x Ki5 rackets but only 2 of them have the 'magic sand' in the hoop and throat area. The odd one out only has it in the handle!

Is there any explanation for this other than poor quality control?

BTW the one with the missing 'sand' was bought from the states the other two were from PK Taiwan.

KI5 has 5grms of sand, so I am quite surprised you can feel where it is. I also played and currently use the KI5 and have felt like there have been frames that have had more or less, but in the end, If the frame plays to my expectation I don't worry about it. Do the frames play differently from one another? Do some feel better on your arm? I have returned frames to PK in the past without issue. Overall I have always felt that there QC was pretty good.

Hi Basil, you can tell where the sand is by shaking the racket close to your ear. On 2 of them there is a distinct noise from the to of the hoop and throat area (as well as the handle) the 'dud' only has sound coming from the handle.

The 3rd one is brand new to replace the other noisy one which is cracked (which was err... let's just say it was an operator error!) weight wise there is 2g difference, haven't checked balance but they seem to swing the same.

How is their QC in general when it comes to weight and balance of many of the same stick?

I recently purchased 2 Ki5's from TW and even though the weight matched up, there was a 3 pt difference in balance. Wasn't impressed at all with either the QC or the playability of the racquet.

I bought two QTours from TW last week. Did not ask for them to be matched. The frames were 2.5 grams diff in weight and 0.5 pt diff in balance, making it extremely easy to match them exactly. And the actual measurements were right on target with the published specs. I'm highly impressed with QTour quality. Even more impressed with playability, fantastic frames!

[Edited] But to be fair: I also bought two used Redondo Mids from TW at the end of May. The weight was close (3 or 4 gram diff) but there was 2.5 pts diff in balance, and the difference went "the wrong way" (racket customizers will know what I mean). It would take 12+ g of lead to get the two Redondos to match... no go for me, I sent them back for a refund.

As an aside: the feel on a well-struck ball is sublime with Redondo, and I was sorry to send them back for this reason alone. With QTour, the feel is excellent but just short of sublime. However in all other respects QTour fits my 4.0 game way better. IMO, you have to be a high-level player with nearly perfect technique and footwork to use Redondo Mid effectively in a match. QTour is definitely a "player" racket but it can work well for anyone from high 3.5 up.

I have 3 PK 7Gs. While I have not measured the weight or balance, I could not tell one apart from the other two if my eyes were closed and they all had the same string job. I can tell the weight difference between my rackets if I do something like change strings or lead tape, so I think I'm good at detecting weight.

    Not great..average.

I could never mod my 2 7Gs to the same weight. Only reason I tried was because I could feel the difference.

I bought a 7G a while back and it was only 27". 7G's are supposed to be 27.5". By the time I noticed it I couldn't return it.
