I am playing full-time with the PS 85...not as a mess-around-for-fun option but as my main racquet.

I have had it strung with Prince Original Syn Gut at mid-tension (55#) to keep the stringing as "neutral" as possible while I experimented to see if the frame itself is viable for me.

I love the frame and am competing well with it.

Any recommendations or experiences you can pass on re stringing options?

Some context on me and my game: I'm a skinny, fit, middle-aged (47) 3.5/4.0 singles player whose game is based around looping groundies with fairly strong 1H grip on both sides augmented by attacking the net on short balls plus some S&V and chip and charge mixed in to keep things painful and weird for my opponent. I win points by drawing errors from the baseline and closing on short balls with volleys, overheads and angles. I hit a clean winner from a baseline exchange (as in not a passing shot) about once every millenium.

Sweet. The PSG at 55# feels like it could go to 60#...gut in low 60s is probably dreamy.

Anyone try full poly at 40# or less?

was leaving a lot more short balls, but i was able to hit better angles. that was generic rpm blast at 45 lbs.

Nowadays I like to use a hybrid poly setup for my prostaffs; I think either SPPP/X1 Biphase or RPM/Sensation at around 52 lbs should work fine

I am generating a ton of spin even with the PSG at 55# and yet much more able to hit through the court than with my previous main racquet (POG OS, typically with full poly, full PSG or a hybrid of those two).

Perhaps I hit the nail on the head with my first try, the syn gut at mid-tension. Sort of a best-of/worst-of all possible worlds compromise.

I am constantly surprised how well most frames perform with PSG 16 gauge at mid tension.

I just started using the ps 6.0 85 too. I strung mine up with vs gut 17. Mains 55 and Crosses 53. Absolutely beautiful! This stick is magical! I could not believe how well i played with it after switching from the wilson tour 90s.

i really like the PS85 reissue w/ full bed of Iontec Black or Salmon 1.25 at 46# on a constant pull machine.

i LOVED it w/ VS Gut/Alu Power at 50/46 CP. amazing feel, smooth as butter. great control and pop.

Oh, I prefer poly to be in the mains, but you might want to try the reverse order to see which works best for you, :)

just began playing with this racquet regularly -- trying it with a full bed of x1biphase at 56lbs. it's good but nothing so special. problem has been spin generation. volleys and slices have been fine. the x1 is going to generate more and more velocity as it softens... but i need some traction.

so, the solution would be to hybrid with a poly on the crosses. i could go with proline2 or scorpion from stock. leaning towards the pl2. question is, what tension? very low or mid, up to 51/52lbs max.

it also sounds like this racquet performs best with a gut string -- traction, velocity and feel all in one.

I run Gamma Zo Dart 17 at 44# in my PS90. Plays really nice and there's no issues with it being stiff since it's all poly in a small head. The 44# is the trick. ;)

    strung my 85 with pl2/x1 hybrid - pl2 mains at 48, x1 at 52

overall, quite comfortable with very good feel. excellent slices, serve returns, volleys, etc. ground game had much better traction. after going full x1, you can build confidence to hit harder with more spin and less shanking. good experiment.
