I have a Honda Passport 1996 truck. It has been working fine over the years until today. I put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car. I rotated the key so it could start. I turned it all the way but it didn't do anything, it made one clicking noise from the engine and not even that noise right before the car starts. I do it again, it does the same thing. I know it is not my batteries because I just replaced them and ran the car with it. I do not want to take it to the shop and make them replace everything and tell me anything you know. Any help will be appreciated. thanks for your help.

it's most likely the starter or the engine kill switch (if you have one), you will need to get it looked at by a pro

I don't think it could be the spark plugs because your engine didn't even make a noise, if it was the spark plugs and the starter was good you would here the car trying to turn over. Same if you had a bad battery, you would hear the car trying to start.

thanks coda. i hope it is the starter. Is it hard to replace a starter at home? because if I take it to a shop, they charge a lot for labor.

I had a similar problem. My truck started fine one day, then just wouldn't start the next morning. The electronics lit up, but there was no noise. I had it towed and they said the gears in the starter were worn and when I turned off the truck the night before, the gearing must have landed on a worn area so it couldn't engage. I'm not a car techie, but that's what they said.

They replaced the starter (a 2002 GMC) and it cost over US$300 (don't remember the exact amount).

It's probably the starter. Given the age of your truck, you might be able to get a used one from a junk yard and have it installed. It would help if you knew a mechanic because the dealers will gouge you. Good luck and let's us know if we were right.
