...I've always been interested in the grip SIZES that some of the pros use...for different reasons....I was noticing that Safin looks like he uses a TINY grip size....his handle almost looks like it gets LOST in his hand..... I've tried all manner and variation....just for experimenting's sake....and there ARE some REAL advantages to different grip sizes/shapes.... It seems that a small(er) grip really helps my 2-hander/serve/topspin forehand....but TERRIBLE for volleying/sharp crosscourt angles --- big(ger) grip really helps with volleys/serves/Eastern forehand/forehand angles....but not NEARLY as easy on western forehands/2-handed b.h.s...!?!?!? Getting back to the issue....does anybody have the facts of pros RACQUET grip size and/or shape ???

Jay's Custom Stringing in New York used to list alot of player's racket specs including grip size on their website. It was surprising to see how many big guys were using grips smaller than 5/8.

i think gripsizes the pros use are all over the place but tend to be smaller than the 'norm'. the traditional rule of thumb is that smaller grips benefit the serve and larger ones groundstrokes. i dont know how appropo that is these days. a guy like michael stich who was maybe 6'4 used something like a 4 1/4 grip. a smaller grip does help alot getting the wrist to pronate more on the serve. i think a smaller grip also leads more to twisting on off center hits. so a grip that is too small on a 3.0 player using a stif racquet w. stiff strings that doesnt consistently hit the sweetspot is asking for physical probs IMO. I thought they would have totally custom grips made, perfect for them , so few would have regulation sizes!

    Fish uses a 4 3/8"

    Roddick a 4 1/2"

stated by Pmac on screen during the Cincy masters 03

smaller grip gives you more torque, bigger grip gives you more control.
