Okay so I have never strung a racket but my coach has offered to teach me when i get a stringer. I don't know if I want to get a crank or drop weight.
It sounds to me like drop weights are more consistent . but cranks sound like they take less time. Can you tell me if it is easy to string with a drop weight. My price range is at most 600 dollars. But I really want some money leftover so I can get the new YT prestige mid >.<...played with it at a club and it was sikkkkk...so yea I might settle for a drop weight. But if it is REALLY worth getting a crank..then...i guess the YT prestige mid can wait

Any advice that applies would be awesome. Thank you so much in advance.

I am looking into MP hercules 730, Gamma progression II 602 FC and the alpha revo 4000.

Start by reading the sticky on top.

If you want to go with a dropweight, go with the low-end Stringway automatic dropweight machine.

Extremely easy and constant-pull. Maybe within your budget.

If you buy a quality stringer you will have it for 10 years or more so try not to save on a couple of dollars to go for a cheaper one that makes you want to move to a better one in a couple of years. That is more expensive.

With so many differnt strings nowadays a lock out is very inconsistent compared to an automatic dropweight especially with monos. So i agree with Scotus.

You can even upgrade the Stringway later from flying clamps to fixed clamps. Although there are many users of SW flying clamps who really do not want to use anything else anymore.

I'd suggest stringing a few racquets first to see if you even like stringing. You might find it's not your cup of tea. If it is, do your research as scotus suggested, ask a few questions if you can't find the answer using the search function, then do more research/reading. Amass as much info as you can, and then make your decision.

As for the crank vs dropweight issue, yep, the nod goes to dropweights for consistency, but consider that at the recreational level of play, you most likely won't see a difference in your performance if your racquets were strung on a crank. Stringbeds are typcally a little tighter strung on dropweights, but that's easily compensated for on a crank by increasing the tension by 10%.

Finally, if you opt to forgo the YT Prestige and went with something like an Alpha Revo (a crank...and it's within your budget), down the road you can add a wise, turning your crank into an electronic tensioner (constant pull).

Anyway, do some reading (ok maybe do a lot of reading lol) - there's tons of information on this board.

i thought while reading your post that you can string for others and make some money. so you could afford a crank machine if you really want one and then make money to buy the YT Prestige Mid racquet.
