I will not be picking one up for a year or two. I'm not an early adopter because there are usually not many games to play--I don't play multiplayer games. I might go back to PC gaming. I went to the PS3 because of cheap used games and simple plug-and-play nature of consoles. But now things are changing. PC games are getting cheap with regular sales via steam, GOG, Gamer's Gate, etc

Won't you have to deal with region issues? Games and consoles are usually region-locked, to the USA/Canada, Europe, the UK, etc...

Send me an email or get at me on the TTFC thread so we can hash out details for when you head to New York, we might be able to catch a game or something.

The PS4 is region lock free; meaning it can play Pal and NTSC games.

PS4 seems like a much better option to me, but I still won't buy it.

Neither. Better to wait until the prices drop, and more games are released.

so has anyone from north America received thr ps4 yesterday.

Noticed on youtube, ppl uploading ghost, you can easily tell a massive update on colour - it so clear and not murky. Also massive improvement on detail.

At this point, I don't even think it's debatable. The PS4 is just head and shoulders above the Xbox One. For one, they don't try to push their dumb big brother hardware on us, making it $100 less, giving them the immediate edge in pricing. Not to mention being way less restrictive about the functionality of the console. I think Microsoft was really hoping that Sony would play their game with them and try to narrow the functionality of their consoles to maximize profitability. Kudos to Sony for saying 'no' and not selling out the consumers and for that, expect a lot of good faith in the form of purchased consoles.

Not a gamer myself, so I am not going buy any console. But if I were to buy one, I would go with Steam, just because both Microsoft and Sony suck big time.

PS4. But then again I have always been a biased Sony fan compared to a MS fan.

Either way, the PS44 has won a lot of people over compared to the Xbone after the shenanigans they pulled during their conferences and crap load of controversies they caused with their console, I know a lot of friends who are switching over too.

Plus the PS4 is cheaper than the Xbone in the UK anyway. Sony won't have the same domination like they had with the PS2, but the PS4 will lead the console war this generation.

Right now, the only game that looks interesting to me is Dragon Age: Inquisition. Since Bioware ultimately failed with concluding the Mass Effect 'trilogy' (which should not have been one in the first place), I am optimistic but cautious about the game.

Hopefully, they will release a beta.

I like many other things besides gaming, that's why I can't chose Xbox because everything is locked behind a paywall.
With PS4, it's not necessary to pay monthly fees to be able to access basic functions of the console.

Which basic functions are you referring to, out of curiosity? What features are you interested in (and/or are provided by PS4) are locked behind a paywall on XB1?

If it's Netflix/Hulu, fair enough. I'll point out you can use HDMI in to stream those via XB1, but if you're looking for a single solution (not having to require having a laptop next to your console, etc), then I've got no comeback there.

Edit: If it's a principle issue, then I'll just agree to disagree, but again, I'm very biased in this situation.

I don't agree with locking things like Hulu/Netflix behind a pay wall but, I have no issues with having to pay for a subscription for online gaming, after all hosting servers isn't free.

Well besides things like Youtube, twitter and facebook, even recording your own gameplay is not possible on XBone.

Simply, with $500 all the XBone can do is play single player games and watch bluray films.
PS4 can do much more with $400. And it doesn't creep people out[at best!]with an NSA Cam either.

This is referring to app support, not accessibility, right? I don't have my hands on one, yet, but I have to assume the internet explorer app would be OK for the above usage? PS4 doesn't come with Youtube (at launch) either, correct? AFAIK none of these things are neutered without XBL account, unless I'm mistaken. Can PS4 play multiplayer games @ $400? I was under the impression you had to pay for multiplayer games.

I'm ambivalent to the kinect/NSA/"spy cam" issue, I personally think the Kinect is extremely useful, but the privacy issue is something that is concerning for many. I won't dispute that. There will be a privacy cover for it, from what I understand, and you can disable it, last I heard. I think the benefits from a system perspective warrant a bundle, but I don't think Sony's wrong in not bundling their eye, either.

While I have no strong opinions on forced bundling, I think in the end, most people will end up picking up the PS Eye (which makes the entry price point a moot argument for a significant portion of the market), being forced into the Kinect is something I have mixed emotions about. Illusion of choice is nice, but if the 'experience' is guaranteed to be better (provided you use it -- which I admit, is not a given), I think it's better for the industry/market to have it. Again, mixed feelings on this one. I personally think price is kind of a weird argument for most of the enthusiast market. Unless PS ONLY releases casual/workout/gimmicky games for the PS Eye attachment and/or doesn't take advantage of the PS eye to its full potential, I think in the end the cost is a wash. I understand budgetary concerns, though. I think a better argument over price (in terms of true/objective comparison) is platform exclusive games...

Can you give some more examples of interesting things you can do with the PS4 that aren't possible with XB1? I'm more or less 'stuck' with the XB1 at launch, so I won't be purchasing the PS4, but I'd love to better understand real world usage models and see the real world comparisons between the two. (Please do keep usage models the same, though -- internet connected vs. subscription vs. 100% offline)

Right, I did forget that YouTube has been delayed on PS4. But when it does arrive, it will be free and that is the crux that follows all else: Only multiplayer is locked behind a paywall on PS4 and everything which will come in future updates will not be.
Even the popularity explosion and network intensive Twitch is not behind a paywall on PS4.

Unfortunately, you are mistaken; web browsing, YouTube is not possible on XBone or 360 without a subscription.
As far as I'm aware, the only thing you can do on XBone(and the 360) is playing single player games and watching DVD's. You can't even send msgs to your friends.

This is news to me. To be clear, you need an XBL gold (paid) sub to do these things? You can't even browse (IE) with a normal (free) XBL account? Wow. I'll have to confirm this in person because that is indeed a mistake.

Edit: Found another source that IE will be XBL gold locked... that's really silly. I'm curious what the reasoning is behind that one.
I know there's still the PIP option that can circumvent these limitations (via video/sound [i assume]) in, but that's kind of a silly hack.

Is it true that the PS4 costs $1800 ish in Brazil? If so, won't the people from Brazil just go to USA, buy them in bulks, and sell them in Brazil for crap load of profit? Likely thing to do if I was in that situation. Or it isn't easy as it sounds?

In a word, yes, some people will do that.

It's less along the lines of profiteering, but more along the lines of "i might as well take a vacation and then come back with one"

Used to be region disc locks, but that isn't a big deal anymore.

^The launch line-up is not worth talking about. Sony gloats that the PS4 is leading a bit in the USA, but it has been released earlier than the X1, so it's nothing but "war of numbers".

My advice: wait for good games to be launched.

This. But I'd like the connectivity and streaming features of PS. What kind of devices are there that hook to my tv/stereo which can stream and/or mirror content from my android phone(wifi direct, dlna)/iPad/PC? The capability to store and play music, movies and pictures wouldn't hurt either.

GTA5 is still leaps and bounds a better game than anything out on the XB1 or PS4 right now.

I know it's been awhile, but I'm looking at jumping to the new generation in the next month or so. Is the consensus still PS4? Granted I'm a current 360 owner, but that doesn't pull me towards XBO at all.

As always it is about the game titles. Right now neither of them have anything I want to play that I cannot play on my PS3. In fact the Wii U has more right now that I would be interested in.
