Mariano Puerta made the final of a challenger a few weeks ago, does anyone think he can come back on the tour??

Actually yes, i think he could.

Why did he retire from the final of San Luis Potosi anyway?

Peurta could certainly come back. He was closer than Fed has ever been to beating Nadal in the FO final. He was a point away from 2 sets to love! I personally would like to see him around again.

Why would he even want to? There comes a time when you cut the strings and move on and his time was long ago. He is about as welcome by the other players, coaches, officials, etc., as a skunk at a garden party.

Do you think he gives a ****? He is a fantastic player, and he will be making plenty of money, what do you mean " why would he even want to" their is so much wrong with that statement it is unreal.

^^Very true to both posts but I suppose respect is rated higher on my list of life and social achievements than money and "hot chicks".

So he should not be cause other people don't like him? how would you even know most players hate him? I am sure he has gathered many friends over the years on tour, and as a friend, you would not turn your head upon one for supposedly "doping".

Oh please. If you were his opponent and he beat you in a major tournament (taking the $$$ you so desperately covet) and is later proved to have been doping, are you seriously saying you would turn the other cheek and go for a few beers with him? These players take the sport, the rankings and the winnings too seriously to not be offended by that. Besides, it's more than the other players not 'liking' him. He has lost the respect of the fans, and if you doubt that or don't feel that's important to a player, then we are having two separate conversations here.

Look at Davydenko's response to allegations of accepting bribes. You don't think reputation and respect means anything to these guys?

I can't be bothered really getting into this but if he came back and won a slam he'd get a lot of respect for turning things around, and thats a great motivator to get him playing again.
Plus as i remember it there was some doubt that he even meant to take the banned substance, although please, lets not resurrect what were about a million posts and opinions on that. i don't care enough to look that up, and puerta is the only one who really knows anyway.

If he came back and took Nadal out in final of RG, every player on the tour would respect him.

First of all I don't drink beer, it tastes like crap. But I would be happy to be friends with him, I couldn't care less.

Respect may be nice to achieve but all of the things that other guy pointed out in this thread mean much more. :)

I'm not asking you to resurrect anything Rhino and I know it would be a cold day in hell before you ever agreed with my opinion, but I stand by it regardless. There is a difference between tennis skill and character...that is my point, so you need not be 'dragged' down into the discussion further.

Hey, you are entitled to your opinion the same as I am entitled to mine. :)

Too late guys, he has been making a comeback for several months now but he got an injury and he is returning to a challenger or future in a week or so.

Hey CC, I often agree with you, and TW wouldn't be the same without you. I'm just busy today thats all.

I was thinking about how Canas came back from a ban and then got respect from players and fans all over the world when he double-beat Federer last year.

Thank you Rhino, that was very nice. Maybe I am too cynical on the issue. I hate cheaters and feel no compassion towards them. I understand how much time, effort and sacrifice it takes to get to that level. Maybe he will do well for himself - I'm not 'personally' hoping he fails. I do think it will be difficult for him to reach the status of Canas though. We'll have to see how it all plays out. :)

Can's stand that cheater,Davydenko should have been in the FO final not Puerta. Can you imagine how Davydenko felt when he lost his shot at a FO title(I know he had a small chance but nevertheless) to a guy he later found out was doping? And please don't find excuses for the guy,he wasn't caught once but twice it is hardly a coincidence.

That's exactly how I feel about it.

Puerta's back? Who cares.
