I'm the second member!!! Since 1month I am playing with this racket but I am struggling finding a good string/stringsetup.

    I've tried:
    - Full bed of Black Code 1.28, 25kg.That only works for 2 hours, after that the string goes dead. 26kg is too much, getting nothing out of the racket.
    - Full bed of Black Code 1.24. 25kg. That is my current setup. I like that, it doesnt lose as much of tension and has a much better feel.
    - Full bed of X-One Biphase 17 and TGV 1.35 , 24kg. DO NOT USE these strings in that racket. These strings are very comfy but there is no power, no control in combination with the PSTGT.
    - Full bed MSV HEX 1.23, 25kg. Just played this setup today. Felt really great.Good power, spin and control. Seems to fly a bit when not hitting it in the sweetspot but : possible new favorite string!
    - Still got a sample of the MSV HEX 1.18, Sign Pro Poly Plasma 1.23 and 1.18.

Any other setups that are definetly worth trying?

    Cheers !!

I was looking at this frame the other day at the proshop and comparing it to the Pure Storm, the Pure Storm Tour seemed to have more of a boxy profile which i like. Can you guys compare to other sticks I have used, is it similar to:
Radical MP and Pro, Kblade98, K95, Prestige MP and Pro. Like which is it most similar to but how it differs. Looking for power and spin level and swingwt comparisons. Thanks.

hi vickeman, i was lucky in that the first string i tried was the MSV focus hex 1.10, and it's just perfect imo...i string it at 26kgs

    welcome to the club!

of the above racquets, i used to play with the migrogel prestige pro.

i can tell you that PST is much more stable than the pro.

it's as solid as the best mids (like the prestige mid) imo....

thx aphex, dont hear too much about the PST good or bad so i was wondering.
however i have a hard time believing that babolat can make a softer stick as i heard this one is. i should maybe demo this and the pure storm.

JT, Im sorry. I can't compare with any of those rackets. I used to play with Pure Drives all the way ( with some Prince testers in between), followed by the APDC for 3 years. All I can say about the racket in comparisation to the APDC is that is much softer! ( my ellbowbow loves my for that) and that it is much more stabile. VERY noticable on 1HBH and volleys. Only difference is, you really have to work your legs to be good behind the ball to hit'em in the sweet spot. The racket makes you a better player.

Aphex : MSV HEX 1.10? That is a really thin gauge! You must break it like every 2 hours?

I'm not a club member for this racquet :), but thought I'd post anyway. Has anyone compared this racquet against the Aeropro Drive? I'm looking for a slightly lighter stick, and this one could be the one.

i just gave a short comparisation with the APDC Zaphood. I think you are mixing the PSTGT with the PSGT. The tour version is heavier than the APDC. I did not play with the PSGT so I cannot compare

yeah, i couldn't either--it's my first ever babolat, i was allergic to them...

in terms of stiffness, i'd say it's in MG prstige pro territory...

Yes you are absolutely right, my bad. The PSTGT is actually pretty much heavier than the PSGT, 343g vs. 312g.

Hope someone has had the chance to compare...

    Thanks anyway.

I've gone for the GT versions. Was tempted by the cheaper price of the old ones but think I'll be happier with these. Any advice for great string jobs?

No problem man. I did play with the Non GT version of the regular storm last year. Kinda remembered putting it down after 5 shots, really did not like it. Didn't liked it at all. Too light, too little mass and a too tiny sweet spot.
What I can remember Zap. Been a while.

I'm in the club. I do have shoulder problems, even after not being on the courts for a couple weeks...but I think I finally found a racquet that compliments my game. Pretty much going to follow each new storm tour model from here on out.

Serving with the PST GT is the only set back I'm having with it right now. The PST non-GT was a little better.

Can anyone compare the older red & black Pure Storm Tour to the newer PST GT model? I heard the GT is a lot stiffer than the older model. True?

No obvious difference in my opinion. Both rackets felt really soft and easy on the arm.

I have the pst gt plus. Feels more solid on contact than the older pst, which I felt had a bit more vibration. Serves amazing, second only to the pdr plus among the 15 racquets I have tried in the last year. My tennis elbow has been flaring up a bit though, and I have switched from a full bed of SPPP to a multi. If my elbow doesn't hold up, I may have to go back to a standard length and/or flexier racquet.

    I guess I belong here now. :)
I recently switched to Babolat after a long time with Dunlop.
I have very happy with my PST-GT.
I was having elbow problems. Switched to this frame, strung with some nat gut and I feel great.

The difference seems to me that the old one is stiffer in the upper hoop than it is in the throat, whereas the newer one is also stiff in the throat. This stiffness is quite uniform throughout the frame so that you mainly feel the flex in the upper hoop. I think this is what gives it its more solid feel, but I don't think the change is worth it if you have the older one.

The carbonXtreme Pure Storm Tour is soooo much better in all aspects, it has so much more feel and it has that mushy soft feeling that its famous for. the new GT version lost all of its feel and just feels stiff and lifeless. the GT is a huge mistake

May I join the club, please :p

I've owned 4 of the old PST CarbonX and sold them last year to get 4 of the new PST GT and have not regretted that one bit !

All of the PST GT AND CARBONX sticks I've owned were all made at the Babolat Tour devision in Lyon, France.
My racquets all have UNIQUE serial numbers - 01, 02, 03 & 04 (I own 4) and then 02-2009 (which stands for the month & year they were made in - February 2009)

The old PSTCarbonX was a very nice racquet too, but to me felt a bit too soft and mushy, the new GT version feels crisper and more solid and is a really nice control midplus racquet from Babolat.

I just bought 4 Wilson BLX 95, 18X20, but will still keep my 4 Babolat PST GT.

I'm an 4.5-5.0 all courter with a one handed eastern backhand and a semi western forehand (safety spin shot) and a classic flat forehand for outright winner shot.

I have customized all my 4 PST GT racquets like this:

    GRIP:
Babolat VS LEATHER GRIP and on top of that a Gamma Supreme Overgrip.

    Frame:
Lead tape: 3 gram @ 9 O'Clock, 2 gram @ 12 O'Clock & 3 gram @ 3 O'Clock. This lead tape gives me the extra juice and power, which this racquet lacks on the serve. Trust me - with lead tape in the right places this racquet becomes a serve power house monster.

Babolat Super head Protection tape in black and white to Protect the frame and grommets and to hide the lead tape.

Then all 4 have a red/white Babolat Custom Damp Vibration dampener.

I have used the following string setups in my 4 PST GT:

    1. Full BlackCode 1.18 @ 58 lbs and @ 56 lbs - nice CoPoly, soft feel but lacked a bit power for me in this racquet.

    2. Full Tornado 1.17 @ 58 lbs - feels a bit better to me than the BlackCode, more power, stiffer feel and slightly better tension maintenance.

    3. Babolat VS TOUCH 16 NAT GUT @ 62 lbs mains & Luxilon Alu Power 1.25 @ 58 lbs crosses - very nice setup for an all court game.

    4. Luxilon Alu Power 1.25 @ 58 lbs mains & Babolat VS TOUCH 17 NAT GUT @ 62 lbs crosses - very nice setup, but the gut lasted after the Luxilon died and after 5 hours this hybrid played like a ROCKET LAUNCHER for me.

    5. Babolat VS TEAM 17 NATTY GUT @ 62 lbs mains & Signum Pro Hyperion 1.24 @ 58 lbs crosses - best setup I've tried in this racquet, until I discovered the setup below......

    6. Signum Pro Tornado 1.17 @ 56 lbs mains & Babolat Xcel Power 16 @ 60 lbs crosses - I was amazed over how this setup just suits this racquet and string pattern sooooo well, that It's now my favorite string setup in this racquet. For some reason, when the poly mains start to die, the effect on the Xcel Power multi in the crosses does not react like, when I had Natty GUT in the crosses in a Luxilon Alu Power mains hybrid, which became like a ROCKET LAUNCHER for me. The Xcel Power is that more stiff compared to a VS Natty GUT and I still have good control after 8 hours with this setup, when I install 48-60 string savers in it.... Without stringsavers this setup will break for me in 4-5 hours time.
After 10-12 hours however this hybrid will either break or I'll just cut it out.

is the 1.24 BlackCode at 26kg really too much? I was gonna go up to 27kg, but I'm having 2nd thoughts now.. Doesn't string tension really depend on playing style more than the string in general? Any more info is greatly appreciated! love this frame!

    Hiya Vamos,
Well I haven't tried the 1.24 with 26kg, only the 1.28. I really don't like the 1.28 at 26kg because it feels powerless. If you string it @ 25kg, it is only good for 2-3 hours before it goes dead.

The 1.24 I really like @ 25kg. It stays alive longer and holds the tension until I break it.

But the amount of kg's is dependent on your own preference. I come from an APDC, which is a serious powerful racket. The PSTGT are less powerful so I string them lower. But, you have to work it out for yourself.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank Aphex and Torre for their accurate evaluations. Before I demoed the PSTgt, I questioned the boards.

It is a very solid stick indeed. As mentioned like the PresPro but more stable cuz of the heft. And I had a hard time believing it was comfortable but it actually is. The 98sq in seems little bigger than other 98s. It also reminds me of the YT Rad Pro. Like it has the heft of a players stick but the power output can be higher than what most players want due in part to the 16x20 pattern. The beam also seems a bit larger than the listed 21mm. Anyways i think that is the reason why the regular Pure Storm is probably more popular, most intermediate players that need this racquets power would not like the Tours heft. It actually swings a little lighter than u would expect considering its static weight. I would prefer the Tour for me but lots of intermediates would like the reg PS more imho. Anyways very solid choice you guys have made. Btw the demos strings were worn and felt 5 lbs loose so that could have affected my take on this stick.

    no probs...

maybe it seems big because you're comparing to the head size of the prestige pro?
the prestige pro is actually 95 (head measures the outside of the hoop)...

waiting for my new bag as well---should be awesome...i got this one

i did the k gut/alu on one of my PSTs---i just couldn't connect to it...felt too powerful

but if it makes sense, i "got" the quality of the contact...it just wasn't for me...

if you can connect to it though, it should be awesome...

I really wanted to like the new pure storm GT but I'm one of those folks in this thread that feels the original black and red PSTour plays with more feel and is a bit more "mushy". If you are interested in a 4 1/2 pure storm GT that has been played with twice let me know. contact me at pmaben@charter.net

club, can you compare the blx95 to the pstgt

(i saw in another thread you also tried out the 16x18, which i'd be more interested in (than the 18x20))
