finally used my whisper touch-M, scorpion-C, strung both at 54lbs thought because whisper lacks power - but this set up is a bit too powerful and mushy- lacked the control i was hoping for, thats because tension too low- compared this setup a full bed pro tornado 57lbs - which is my best setup.
Both setup used on my k90, next time i will try PV's setup- but on my head mid tgk237.1 just got it, used WHAT PINPOINT ACCURACY

When he used the whispertouch as crosses 58lbs - scorpion's mains 56lbs, this setup should give me the control factor which i licke very much

I just put the Scorpion mains 56/gut crosses 58 in my Kneissl Tom's Machine.I like it so far. Nice spin and control. Still early though, I've only got about 2 hours on this setup.

Yep, I ended up reducing the tension simply because the poly played better at a lower tension. More spin as well. Although I haven't hit with it again, I don't think the CyberTwirl Black is anything special. Unless it starts to magically transform like BHBR did, it's pretty board like with feel. Good spin, decent control, decent comfort. It actually feels like a properly priced version of Black Code with extra spin. Quite plasticky feeling. In other words, I hope I didn't waste 20ft of VS Team original :(

PV do you have any thoughts on how the setup might play if you reduced the tension mains down to, say, 48 lbs. and crosses to like 52? Lot of talk on one of the other sites about using 30's and 40's. My interest is in control and spin and also lasting longer than 6 hours. I have both the Whisper and Scorpion on order.

Interesting question. I'm going to play against a serious player tonight, so I'm going to do a repeat of BHBR/WT. Just for you, I'll string at 48/52 :)

bummer - had a bad experience with performaxx after raving about it in my playtest thread. the setup popped in my bag. thought it may have been a fluke until my 2nd setup with it popped in my bag. i think i will have to look elsewhere.

Email the owner and he will replace it. There was a manufacturing error where an entire batch was doing just that. Never broke one before, and haven't broken one since.

Stringing: The stringing of the BHBR has already been covered, so I won't waste time there. I'm using Touch 17 rather than the thinner WhisperTouch simply because I didn't really feel like cutting my last WT set in half. I had a full set cut 2x20 of Touch 17, so I decided to use this instead. It strings up like a poly: stiff, coil memory, but very easy to get through blocked grommets. Strung at 48/52, 5% prestretch on gut.

Thanks PV. I will be interested in your conclusion but my greater interest is in how the Scorp/WT hybrid works at that strength.

I would not have requested you try the BHBR hybrid especially right before a challenging match based on your early observations and my own experience with this set up taking several hours of playing to get it to "settle in". My experience, as was yours, it was not very good at all for about the first 4-5 hours. Good luck.:-?

First impressions: feels EXACTLY the same as when I hit with the other BHBR setup. However, that setup broke in and became magical. Plus, I was not on my game today since I'm so stressed out about my final design project aka will I graduate or not. Either way, hit with it for an hour, and even at the lower tension, nothing was flying. Felt identical.

Just bought two new pb10 mid's from here and had them strung up. They didn't have scorpion which was my first choice but they did have silverstring. Had it strung up 55M and klip legend Nat. gut on the x's at 57. Played for 2 hours and was incredibly impressed. Crisp clean feeling with good spin and great control. Went back a couple days later and couldn't believe how poorly it played. Dead flat feeling struggled to hit anything well. Any thoughts?

Switched to my second racket which I had strung with Tecnifibre x-code 16 on x's at 55 and Klip legend on mains at 57. This hit pretty good not the control and crisp feeling of the ss originally but I could play with it pretty well. A little plasticky feeling but could control my shots.

Going to get some Scorpion and BHBR and try these. Any thoughts on tension or other recommendations for this racket?

Hi Pv, As a fellow Dunlop enthusiast what string set-up would you suggest in the M-fil 300? I play competitive doubles mainly so it needs to be responsive at all areas of the court, particularly at net.

PV...have u ever tried nat gut/Scorp? Why do u always put the gut in the crosses? I do the opposite.

I have some stuff I just put up in the string trade thread if anyone's interested. Some good stuff there...http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showpost.php?p=5633730&postcount=2740

Hey PV, Great info you have furnished.

Wondered if you ever tried a full bed of either Head Sonic Pro 16 or Wilson Hollow Core 16 strings?

OK a little follow up on my Aero 112. When this is good it is really good but when the tension drops it happens fairly dramatically. I've been playing almost every day and now have about 10 hours on this Scorpion/VS17 at 50/54.
My first set this morning everything was going long. I won the first set but really struggled with the power. Second set I lost...struggled with serve, power and control...pretty bad. The third set I switched over to the APD which also has about 10 hours and it was just perfect. Won third set 6-1. As you can see from signature Scorp/VS17 48/52.

I have a challenging doubles match this afternoon and think I will use the APD and see how many hours this setup will last.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up! Just got my diploma this evening, am starting a new fitness program with my gf to play in some tournaments this summer, so I'll be back in action!

I'm also thinking about a racquet switch. After changing my strokes pretty significantly over the past year to make more power and spin with less effort, I think that I might be going back to my old preference. I'm stringing up my HM 200G and am going to hit with it tomorrow and see. I'm thinking a bit larger frame, open string pattern (200G isn't, but we'll see if it's what I'm after as far as weight), and most importantly, >12 oz. Looking to give my swings some more oomph since I'm generating more racquet head speed and more stability for consistency on the 1HBH stroke. Will see. :)

Perhaps no on the new racquet. Just played a few hours again with the AG100 and it just feels...right. Scorp/gut is just....perfect :D

PV congratulations on the degree. Huge accomplishment. You should do something to celebrate the moment.:)

I just cant get the Aero 112's to perform the way I want...I have been playing the APD cortex with Scorpion and gut and it is just great. Think I'm going to sell the 112's and get another APD cortex. By the way, I ordered some WT from Performaxx and got it in about 10 days later.

I'm thinking of stringing my new Aeropro Drive Cortex Scorpion 1.22 50lbs X WY 1.2 at 54lbs. Should I prestretch the Whisper Touch and if so how much?
    Thanks

Since I've got a constant pull electronic, I just use the machine prestretch function at 10%. I don't actually "pull" it like you might do to remove coil memory.

I'm not even going to update the CTB/VS Team hybrid review, nor the followup review of BHBR. The CTB just is a terrible playing poly string. The BHBR is a great string as I found before, but even with a tension drop, there wasn't anything magical. Scorpion is still my favorite of all time. I'll be stringing up Scorpion/WT LT tonight. LT = Light Touch or Low Tension (advertised as Low Tension, says Light Touch on the packaging). It's a version of WhisperTouch meant to be string at lower tensions and apparently gives more power. This should be interesting. :)

I'm going to do 50/53. It says not to string above 50, but I would only string a poly so low. This, along with the new SilverFox line are really meant for players who are either older or hit with shorter, controlled strokes. Therefore, they need more power since they're not generating their own. I'll see how it stands up since durability is supposed to go down a lot when strung above 50, but that's why we playtest :D

I just got a new APD cortex in today and will string it a 50/54. Hopefully it will hold up better than in the Aero 112's....it was so sweet for about the first 6 hours:) but beyond that it was just a little too much power....not awful....

This new racquet has a smaller grip and I am real interested to see how it feels especially with this new string.

At first you put BHBR into your top 3. Is it still in there. I find it much better than B5E. More power spin and control. Have yet to try scorpion but idk if i will because im more into the profiled strings which i find give more spin

Well that wasn't as exciting as I thought. The "more powerful" version of Whispertouch plays exactly the same as the regular version. Oh well. I will say that this setup only gets better with time too. It's the only string setup that I never cut out because it just plays brilliantly until it breaks.

Are you talking about the Performaxx Light Touch? I bought some off the bay but my stringer told me it broke when stringing. sad face.
He then proceeded to replace it with Wilson Sensation (mains) which has made my racket into a freakin rocket launcher with absoloutely no control or spin whatsoever.

    PV,

    Stick with the Dunlop line.

I just got a AG4D300 and love it: more power, more spin, more margins, great feel.

I actually don't think I'm going to even switch from the AG100. It just feels...right. No other racquet I've ever tried has felt so perfect for me right out of the gate. I think my concerns were from being sick and just not really focusing on technique. Having played since, no issues at all.

I think I'm going to put some Mosquito Bite/gut in here at lower tension and see how it plays.

For all future playtests, the reference string setup is now:

WeissCANNON Black5Edge / PerforMAXX WhisperTouch Natural Gut
    Tension (lbs): 52/55

After numerous back to back hits, Scorpion just doesn't mesh as well with my new strokes as B5E does. It just feels more responsive from all areas of the court. :)

Attaboy! Given all the BHBR softness debates, how does it compare in terms of comfort to B5E?

Oh, BHBR and B5E aren't really comparable in terms of comfort. WC polys, just like Lux polys, don't feel like any other type. B5E in itself is very unique. It's soft, forgiving, but crisp and responsive. Scorpion and Turbotwist are very soft and forgiving, but lack the responsiveness that B5E offers. The control offered by Scorp cannot be matched, but overall, B5E just seems like a small step up.

I've been playing BHBR last few months, BHSR more recently but I am feeling that Cyclone 18g has better control. It feels crisp too. I'm running out of Cyclone. Before I order a new reel how would you compare B5E to Cyclone? Which do you prefer and why?
