Qualified to be a coach?

Surprisingly, you don't have to be 5.0 or 5.5 level to do and pass coaching certification. Of course, you need to be able to teach people all facets of the game so you need to be skilled enough in them before going for your coaching test (perhaps 4.0 would be the lowest). Then, it just depends on who you do your testing through and what level you go for. Different organisations have different requirements and different countries have different levels of qualification. If you're just a good to average club player you might be able to qualify as a developmental coach. So you would be okay to teach at grassroots level or to rank beginners. I mean, be honest, if you're not obviously better than me why would I listen to you? So you could do it if you stayed realistic.

Look at the USTA site and you'll be able to see there are a couple of different levels of qualification. If you can fulfil the requirements then you can go for their tests.

actually almost anyone can be a certified teaching pro. if you have a free weekend and have the money to spend, you can get certified. has really nothing to do with the usta. this is a real problem. speaking of in the USA..dont know the process in other countries.

Since this is in pro player discussion I must ask, in what sport is the coach better than the pro player? Does Landsdorp even play at a 5.0 level or Bolletieri above 3.5 level? If NickyB good enough for Agassi, good enough for us. Not just amateurs, but pros seek them out, these men who can be beaten by amateurs.

To answer your question, to improve yourself. Go by references and results. Hire on references and others' results. Retain/fire based on results. Coach not helping, fire coach.

Sounds cruel, but true.

Guys, she wasn't actually posing a question, its a rhetorical one. She's expressing her opinion without actually asking for a response.

I could bit my last coach anytime. He has a lot to learn from, but most important factor he've worked with me for free. Though i never paid to noone of my coaches.
