Does anyone know if a good way to synchronize documents between their home and work computers? I'm forever emailing documents to myself so that I can make sure the documents are on both computers. I hate lugging my work laptop home every day.

Sometimes I use a flashdrive, but at times I have copied over documents by accident. Ideally, I'd like to have something like a virtual shared drive or backup drive so that I can work on the same documents from work and home, and always have an updated version. Sometimes I work from home, and it would make things easier.

Ever try an online service like Google docs? Seems that would be much easier to synchronize docs.

Eventually, most stuff will eventually be online... cloud computing.

There is software like PC Sync or something like that or Go Anywhere - names like that. You install them on all your machines and they keep files in sync when they are connected to the network.

why not use a laptop ? that solved this problem for me for good. Prior to that i used to use floppies which sucked.

All my work is also commited on github.com regularly.

I just use google docs for this kind of thing, do the other services mentioned above do something that google docs cannot/does not?

google docs is a great way to do this and never have the issues you run into with transferring from one computer to another and back. even with an ftp space you can save over work you've done on accident. of course if it is not an office type document then google docs won't cut it anyway.

USB Flashdrive works well if you wont always have an internet connection available. You can even use your phone as flash stick then your docs will always be with you.

As far as synchronization go, you can use something old school and simple like just right-clicking and select make new briefcase. Then just right click and synchronize the briefcase when you want to. Easy as pie.

Another recommendation for dropbox. Also allows you to host images and other files directly from dropbox.

Thanks for the dropbox recommendation! It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.
