Do you heat up the bars before rubbing them over the mains? If so, how? The bars are pretty hard. Since strings are much softer than skate blades, skis and surfboards, I am wondering how effective hey are at room temperature. Thanks.

I just rub the room temperature bar over the mains. (Don't forget to do the top side and the bottom side.)

Know that some flakes of wax will fall on the base of your machine. I just use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of them.

Should be fine at room temperature--you are just looking for a fairly light coating to help reduce friction.--i.e., use sparingly. I am afraid that if you got it too soft (by warming) you might end up with a mess.
