Buy a tape measure. They're less than $2.

I use a foot per main/cross. With poly, make sure you pull out enough string for the knots. Synthetic gut generally stretches enough to tie knots during stringing. By the way, arm lengths is a really bad way to measure strings, at least if you are going to ask other people how many they use.

attach a ruler or a measuring device to your stringing machine... it will make your life a lot easier.

P.S, arm lengths are different for everyone.

Old stringers trick to get short side and Mains length. Take the end of the string, measure from the Throat to the top of the Head with the string. Now multiply that by HALF the amount of Mains, plus one length. So if you have 16 mains, 8 lengths plus 1 equals 9 lengths your Short Side. Then just double that to get the entire Mains length.

You can't measure by arm length, unless you know exactly how far your arm are apart. Get a yard stick or tape measure.

I do 3 lengths from handle to head and 3 across the width to get the short side, so i guess just double that for the mains. for the most part won't 20 feet work? (cutting an average pack of string in half.)
