Hi, just a question i am sure there is quite easy answer for.
If the string such as Prince Duraflex 16 costs $ 3.95 why does my local store charge me $20 to install? That's just a normal Mark-up for stringing? $15 or 300%?

it seems ok... is that why?

14 labor. 6 for string = 20. Pretty much the going rate.

Yep! You pay for the time/"expertise" it takes for getting the strings INTO your racquet (correctly, i might add). Everywhere around here is $20 for prince syn gut, also.

Yes - the real rip off is going to a place like Sports Authority where they have the 40' package of Prince w/duraflex on the wall for $19.99 - that is one I have never figured out.

Usually that includes the price of stringing. They do not support a price for string only. There are a few sporting stores that do sell string and stringing sepreate.

It's not posted because that's the normal way most sporting goods stores sell.

that is what they charge you because they assume that they will be stringing it for you at no extra charge....

If I remember correctly, there's some small print on the back of the Sports Authority receipt (the big yellow sheet) that says they'll install customer-supplied stringing for something like $16.

I wouldn't let SA string my racquet if they did it for free!
