What if a Pure Drive (PD) and its heavy top spin playing owner went back to 80's in a time machine..How do you think he would do against players of all the classic racquets (both wood and early graphites) we talk about here?

Of course, assuming the level of tennis this PD player and his classic-racquet-holding opponents are the same (80's player holding a classic = his level is in 80's terms for a player; late 2000's player = his level is judged in today's terms)

-Who do you think will win?
    - Do you think PD player will do any better against players in higher rating than himself?

The modern player will win, but that's more due to how the game of tennis has changed over the last 25 years.

That depends on how long back you go back to.

1980s when Sampras dominated n the guy will be laughing stock on the fast courts.

He may have to go back far enough that the spin shot is not only effective but there was no way to counter it.

Perhaps pre Lendl with those tiny frames.
