I have a 10 year old that is 5'2". He plays a lot of tournaments and he has been playing with the Wilson Blade Lite. I feel it is time to move to a racket that is a little heavier. The blade lite is 9.4 oz. Plus his are about worn out. I want to stay with Wilson. Any suggestions? I thought about the Steam 99s. He has hit with it and he really likes it but it has a swingweight of 333. I also thought about the 6.1 team but it is has a 95in. head and most juniors are not playing with 95in rackets. Any thoughts?

TCF can you send me an email. I can send you a videos of my son. They are online and is ready to go. I was unable to get the other address to work. Maybe that would help. Thanks!

Try the new Wilson BLX Juice 100L that is coming out when the Steams come out. My son tested it for Wilson and really liked it. Its 10.4 or 10.5 strung weight so its a little heavier than the Blade Lite. It also is 4 Pts HH instead of 1 Pt HL like the Blade. Here is the link on Wilson site - http://www.wilson.com/en-us/tennis/rackets/juice-100l/. He also loved the Steam but was too heavy for him yet.

Thanks, my son hit with the 99s but it might be a little to heavy.

Try the new Blade 98 16x19. Even though the SW is listed at 331 it's pretty easy to swing. It's really nice from all areas of the courts worth a try.

My son (also 10 and about the same height as OP´s kid) occasionally hits with my new Blade 98 18*20 but it is a little to heavy for him when serving..

We find that his Pure Drive Lite (a little heavier than the Blade Lite) suits him well at present.

Another good option if the player like the stick is simply put some lead tape on it. Gradually build it up until they grow into the heavier model.

I figured your daughter would like it, its an excellent racquet. As I have mentioned before its very easy on the arm and provides very easy power. My daughter uses biphase 16G(50Lbs) as well, along with with Black code 17G(46 lbs) in the mains. Since I do all the stringing we have experimented with string tensions and have found that the ideal tension ave of 48 lbs works best for my daughters game and current strings..best combo of control, spin and power. She has picked up her old racquet a few times, the babolat aero pro drive, and can't believe she actually played with it, she says it feels like your hitting with a board, very rigid, requiring more effort to hit the ball hard and could feel a lot of tension on her elbow.

Are you guys really recommending rackets with 330 plus sw for a ten yr old???

    How big is this kid?

I'm 5'10", 160 lbs and in good shape and that's more racket than I or any of my hitting partners use.

Seems a little much for junior's arm IMO.

Who knows how heavy my wooden racket that I played with at age 6 was. I am in my forties, still playing tennis and I am fine.

Some of the swing weight numbers are misleading or even incorrect. The original BLX Tour listed on TW at 341 sw was widely used by girls 11yo and older. Now even if your 8yo can play well with a 320 sw racket she may play even better with a comparable racket with a 300 sw. As she is a tournament player now you also need to think what may happen if she gets involved in a 3hr match (and possibly a second match the same day)

Just go with a Babolat...Why risk not being cool like all the other kids??? At the end of the day it's more about the paint and marketing than the product anyway!

Either a swing weight of 330 is too much for my child or he needs to get used to it. He played fine but had a harder time against juniors who really busted the ball.

hey ga tennis, I will be down in Augusta at the Dasani Mayors cup tournament this weekend with my daughter. I would like to get a chance to meet you if possible. I will mostly be at the G14 sites since that is where my daughter will be but I will also be at the G12 sites. I will be down there with Johan Kriek, my daughters coach, along with several other girls from the academy. To find me I will be wearing either a neon green Kriek academy hat or a dark green Nadal signature hat. Anyway, I hope we get to meet and talk some and also I hope your daughter does well.

The 12s almost always play at Fleming and the 14s play at Newman.
