Racquet for a female beginner/intermediate

Alright guys, without having my soon to be better half demo anything, what is a good stick for her that she will adjust into nicely as she progresses? She doesn't care enough to demo a racquet, she just wants to hit a few balls with me. My leaded up sticks definitely won't get the job done for her.

I am thinking something in the 100-107 head size, 8.5-10.5 oz, slightly head heavy, and something current!

Here is my list so far:
Babolat xs 105
Dunlop Aerogel 4D 500 (5Hundred) Racquet
Dunlop Aerogel 4D Super-Lite Racquet
Volkl Power Bridge 4 Racquets
Wilson K Factor KFour.FX Racquets
Wilson K Factor KSting 105 Racquets
Wilson K Factor KFury Racquets

Any and all recommendations encouraged!

If she doesn't care to demo a racquet and if she only "wants to hit a few balls with you", then is she really interested in getting into tennis and improving?
I would think not.

getting better will be, if nothing else, a side effect of having fun while hitting balls with me. she has already instructed me not to 'coach' her in the process.

by the way, thanks for the help and great attitude

If she doesn't want you to coach her, then how does she expect to improve?

This will be the last post i'll make in this thread as i feel this is a pointless endeavour. GOOD LUCK.

Back to your question..... how about Fischer GDS Vision for $70? Yes I am biased with Fischer, and was in your shoes and picked it for a female beginner. Fits your spec. excellent quality and if anything, it looks more feminine that may be all she care for.

If she would not appreciate much on the choice of racquet (it is still perfectly OK as long as she has some fun playing with you), no point to spend top dollars on the latest model. Just pick an older model with that spec. range for much less, and it would work as good for her.

Just my $0.02......

Thanks for your input and redirection, I will give the GDS a look.

I'm not sure if you can find these around anymore, but the Dunlop M-fil Lady seems like a good fit. It even comes with its own backup! It was cheap too- last I checked, it was in the 70 dollar range or so.

If not that or the GDS vision mentioned above, consider getting her a Volkl V1 MP (or OS). These are both GREAT frames for a beginner- powerful, but not overly so. They also happen to be extraordinarily arm friendly, so you don't have to worry about her health as a result of hitting a few tennis balls.

Good luck!

No offense, but I couldn't agree more with mastodon, especially after reading your description of the situation. My current gf pretended to be interested in tennis when we were first dating, but all interest has tapered off over the years.

I'll bet you could buy her a budget stick from Costco and she won't be able to tell difference, as long as it has the stereotypical beginner's specs and some attractive colors. Seriously, save your money. If your significant other is anything like your typical woman, she'll be more appreciative if you put that money towards the ring or a fancy new designer purse.

If she really isn't that interested you have a few options.

You could just get her a cheap Walmart racquet, one that is over powered and will let her just tap balls back into play.

You could get a racquet you want and pretend it's for her. Once she loses interest, lead it up how you want, and it's all yours.

You could hang up posters of hot WTA stars to let her understand what type of woman you're after. If she has any respect for you, she'll conform and start demoing racquets and beg you to teach her the ins and outs of the sport.

i second the opinions of just getting her a good racquet without bothering too much about the specs if she's just going to have a short term relationship with the game...

no point buying something too expensive or invest on it too much when she's gonna just hang up her racquet after 10 days hitting with it...

buy one that you might want to use it later as a spare or something that you could modify it back to your own specs later... like a lighter version of your racquets...

I would get a Volkl V1 racquet. It grows with your ability and would last her a long, long time. If you buy some of the other racquets listed I'm afraid she will get better and need another racquet. That is a waste of money IMHO. Getting her a V1 Classic would have her keeping the racquet as she gets better. A couple of club pros use the V1 Classic as their main racquet.

I agree with the concept. The problem... without knowing how she plays, how well she is conditioned, does she enjoy full swings and how hard the balls will be flying... we can not really guess which would be best for her. Still for the price of a single V1, you can pick up two affordable racquets. So should she decide not to advance or stop playing entirely less money was spent. She could pick up a liquidmetal 8 and radical ... with some money to spare.

In the same situation, I bought my wife a cheapo Walmart racket to see what she thought of the sport. She really enjoyed getting out there and hitting with me, so I got her a Head Liquidmetal Radical OS, and she loves it!

Why would you spend that much money on a racket for someone who isn't showing interest in improving? If you're gonna go with the Red, at least get the O-Port or Speed-Port version, instead of the EXO3!
