When using unfresh and slightly heavier balls as compared to straight out of the sealed tin, can this cause racquet damage?

No. I don't believe old balls vs. new balls cause any problems.

it won't do anything to the racquet or strings. if you play with really old balls it might hurt your form more than anything else.

unless the balls have like gravel superglued to them, i'm sure your rackets will be fine.
