Racquets are made of Carbon Fibre and Epoxy

    If all the racquets these days are made of Carbon fibre and epoxy, with a few other additives, why are they called graphite racquets?

    Very true, todays hypercarbon airshells are very different then the thick beamed graphite composites of the last few decades. Today rackets are much lighter and stiffer and dont offer the same feel of the older, heavier and more flexible graphite rackets. I still play models from the 1980s :)

    Graphite is a form of Carbon. Carbon fibers can actually be turned into graphite with a heat treat. The two are just different states of carbon. Both of which use types of resins or epoxies and chemical and thermal manufacturing processes in order to manufacture tennis racquets.
    Carbon fiber is far tougher per a given weight, though, when it comes to tennis racquets(assuming you don't put them in a metal shearer. Graphite epoxy is more resistant to cutting, while carbon fiber resists impacts and torsional stress better.).
