Does anyone have more video clips of Rampras playing? Youtube only has three very short ones I think. Would really love to see some more of him.
It's hilarious and at the same time hugely interesting how this guy tries to imitate Sampras (interesting as an experiment of 'fidelity', much like, say, the Psycho remake - I suppose it goes to show that the best copy is never as effective as the original).
Are there any other instances of an imitation to this degree in tennis history?

Best thing about Rampras. Not only does he copy Petros’ style, he copies his racquet choices too.

It is ok to imitate great players but in Ram's case it is a bit too much imho. 'Identity crisis'?

Imitates is what you mean. His shots look similar, but technically are much different. Most notable is the backhand side where Federer looks like a statue compared to the Bulgarian. He doesn't keep his chest closed nearly as long, his head nearly as still and recovers during the followthrough. Federer has finished following through before he even starts to move again.

Few crazy sweet volleys by Nalbandian in that one. Ram looks solid, just not enough firepower and speed for someone like Nalbandian

rams game would probably have been more successful in the 90's.

his baseline movement is just to slow today.

Ram looks like a joke honestly, footwork is ZERO and the basic mistakes he makes are laughable, I'm surprised he got 4 games against Nalbandian.

Ram is possibly the worst player to ever win an ATP title.

I saw him play for the first time in Newport, what a surprise! It's like a carbon copy, just with less power and talent.

This is awesome, Ram's volleying really is in another class -- funny how he actually beat Baker a few weeks ago and people were shocked but when you see that practice video you can really see how he'd trouble him a lot. Good that he was able to get a wildcard to the US Open and fittingly on Pete's last slam 10 year anniversery. For a pro he's a bit slow on his feet but it makes the rest of his game and seeing how he wins matches that much more interesting.

Ram would have won multiple Wimbledon title in the 90s.

I'm surprised nobody has tried to copy Roddick's serve motion/technique. THAT definitely wouldn't be to shabby either

 Including that little butt wiggle he does every time he serves? I'd prefer not to.

guy actually has a pretty game, backhand is lol bad though. Hits it so short with nothing on it. And his movement is severely lacking. Seen him play dubs though, but again the backhand is just too weak.

that's the only thing that dimitrov hasn't changed in his game to become more similar in appearance to fed. he's always had that loose, open follow through.

Why not if it produces a 140 MPH bomb? Well maybe his serve isn't that hard these days, but the butt wiggle gets the ladies going :)

I don't know why this guy thinks that copying Sampras will get him success, especially when the entire field is comprised of baseliners.

Either way, if Ram had a prime, he is definitely passed it by now. He chose to emulate a style (Sampras's) that frankly he wasn't good enough to succeed with.

Ram's playing Fognini right now on Court 17. Just started, and is being streamed (for folks in US) on usopen.org.

Yea, he's not Sampras, but has a pretty good serve and one-hander, and likes to come in a lot. Nice to see that style of play in action!

Just the forehand and tactics. Everything else is different.

Different service motion, different backhand follow through, and the fool slides on everything.

watching Rampras play Fognini who is obviously a zombie cuz he looks like corpse holding a racquet, but anyway I found it funny that Ram totally impersonates Sampras, but with less touch, worse ground strokes, and terrible approach slices LOL.
