    Monfed,

There's nothing you can do to undo Clarky's anti-jinxing.

She's so pessimistic I look to real life for escapism.

    Regards,

Ralph winning 3 slams in 2013 is not even a point of discussion. It is a done deal. The real question worth asking is whether he will drop more than 3 sets on his way to those 3 slams.

There should be an anti jinxing contest between you and Monfed. And then you will win..

Of course, Clarky. For real. Tell me who will stop him ? Djoker can't even win against 35 year old dinosaurs from the weak era. Fed is a dinosaur himself and hasn't won a single title in the last 8 months. He is drawing up retirement plans as we speak. Nadzilla on the other hand comes back stronger, faster and fitter from a 8 month hiatus and decimates the field winning 3 titles including a HC masters, sooner than you can type one of your anti-jinx poasts.

What more proof do you need ? It will be nadalwon2013 , whether you like it or not

    On the topic:

I don't think Rafa will win more than one slam. He has very high chances of winning RG but I don't think he is a lock to win that either.

Pertinent point. Given that Ralph will win RG without dropping a set, he could afford to drop a couple in the first week of Wimby(as always),and maybe one set in the first week of USO(you know just to get his bearings right).

Yea you can stop wearing your skull necklace for now, save it for AO 14 when Ralph would be gunning for a "Rafa" slam.

Federer will not win big slams anymore. He cannot grind through several 5-set matches in a compressed time period.

I mean look at Indian Wells. It's the beginning of the year. He should be fairly fresh and feeling good physically. But he has trouble with two back-to-back matches before Nadal. And those were best-of-3 sets.

I feel genuinely bad, because I really think if Federer focused on core and lower-back strength training, he could really compete and continue to be a force. I'm talking Gil Reyes level dedication and strength training.

But Federer (as are other successful players) is stubborn and very resistant to change in anything regarding his game. As one of the greatest players ever, he's probably even more stubborn. I can't say I blame him.

Slams won by the 6+ slam winners of the open era the year they turned 27:

    Edberg: 0
    Becker: 0
    Wilander: 0
    McEnroe: 0
    Agassi: 0
    Connors: 0
Lendl: 2(RG and USO), he is a late bloomer.
    Borg: 0
    Sampras: 1(Wimbledon)
    Federer: 1(USO)

Twenty-seven in tennis is not young anymore.

Best case scenario for Nadal is he wins RG.

It's pathetic because the thread is anti jinxing. Even if he had said federer, I would have said the same. I don't think anyone would win 3 slams this year

Wait a minute, you say that nadal will not win another slam. So why do you bother if I say that he will not win 3 slams in a year? I didn't even say Nadal will not win three slams. I only said he won't win three slams in an year.

Times have changed. Unless Raonic or Nishikori start playing great tennis, next year the top ten will probably have only one player younger than 27.

Yeah, he is clearly carrying his momentum from Miami into the slams. Only a fool could think that Ralph can drop a set at RG. However, we have to give some credit to Noel who could sneak one set off Ralph by distracting him, or if he could get the game to continue through a devastating flood, or Andy could push Ralph to a tie-break if there are apocalyptic storms and Class-V hurricanes at the USO.

And let's not bring up Flukas Rosol.

Nadal has taken tennis celebrity to a new level. People seem to care about Nadal (for better or for worse) more than they cared about Federer. So Nadal has the obsession of millions at his feet and he's in his prime still (signs are 2013 is his best year). A rare combination.

    Like your new nick.

Would be pretty surprised if Rafa wins more than 1 slam. It's not impossible but highly unlikely. But that's why you call him Rafa 'the impossible' I guess...

Actually, Monfed started this thread as an attempt to jinx Nadal, not anti-jinx him. Nadal winning anything is a worst case scenario for Monfed. He only started this thread because in his mind, it will stop Nadal from winning any slams. It's mental illness.

I don't think he will win another slam, and you saying he won't win 3 slams doesn't bother me one bit. It's the bs you said about me when what I said is basically the same thing you're saying. Also, if Monfed had started this thread about Fed you absolutely would have been in here nodding in agreement. You're one of the biggest Fedites on this forum, Feather. No doubt you would have been making a case for why Fed will sweep the season if someone else had gotten the ball rolling for you.

Of course its highly unlikely that anyone wins more than one slam, after what we saw in 2012, 4 different slam winners. And if we go back to 2011, it was HIGHLY unlikely that Djokovic won 3 slams (some might even say "impossible" given that the last time Djokovic won a slam was 2008). Let's face it, nobody can see it coming when it happens. The only thing we have to guide us is our eyes. And the eyes say Nadal has never hit the backhand better than 2013.

Nadal won Indian Wells. Its only going to get better for him, with Monte Carlo coming up. Djokovic/Federer really needed to get some wins over Nadal before the clay season, to establish some kind of threat level. Didn't happen.

Doubt it, aren't they improving drug testing this year?

The problem with current drug testing is that Djokovic only got test once in a 6 month period last year. And he's the guy that is impossible to beat in a 5 setter (apart from that wind-affected US Open final vs Murray). No man in the history of tennis has had match endurance like post-2010 Djokovic. Fortunately for Nadal, the Roland Garros final was only 4 sets (and was played over 2 days). That's the key to beating Djokovic, put him away reasonably quickly.

Prior to 2011, Nadal wasn't facing the super-human Djokovic. Did you see 2011 Wimbledon, 2011 US Open, 2012 Australian Open? Djokovic is super-human in best-of-5 sets. Nadal is human. There has never been a player with better stamina than 2011-12 Djokovic. We'll see if Djokovic still has that magical stamina in 2013, but so far he has, after those marathon wins over Wawrinka and Murray at the Australian Open. But of course the magical stamina isn't relevant if he's being beaten in 3 sets or 4 quick sets.

I don't think you'll see them play in heavy rain like that again. It was a poorly managed match, and should never have gotten to the point of balls being as soaked as they were. Playing in rain is ok, but not to the point of players and balls being drenched. And Djokovic will lose in straight sets when the balls are actually bouncing. Nadal is too good at Roland Garros and will never lose to Djokovic, even when Nadal is playing hurt like last year.

What was Cvac's from about 2006-2010? Now compare that to 2011 to now. Nadal NEVER had a sudden and inexplicable increase in stamina and endurance after spending his entire career as a weakling like Cvac did.

Did you actually watch the 2012 Aus Open final? Only one player was getting stronger physically in that match and it wasn't Djokovic. He won (just) because Nadal still had the mental frailties and his backhand went south. But physically Nadal had him. You could see it at the start of the 5th set. Djok was on his knees. Rafa was prowling around like a tiger. It was very noticeable.

You stick them head to head in a clay court 5 setter for 6+ hours and there is only one winner physically, and it isn't Djokovic. Shame we won't see that because I don't see Djok taking 2 sets off him at RG.

Nadal's aerobic conditioning is insane. When he starts to tie up it is usually blisters/injury, not stamina.
