Turns out the player I'm most interested in atm (Lukasz Kubot) isn't in the top 20 .... however, he is up 6 points, from 48 last week to 42 this week! :D In fact, he's been going up steadily for some weeks now, and his performance in February's South American Swing has really helped.

WOW ... just noticed Gulbis jumped 27 points!!!

Yes, I too was surprised by how much Gulbis leaped up to 45. 250 titles arn't soo pointless after all.

    EXACTLY! :D
Nieminen's performance at Delray gave him a boost of 24 "positions"

And Almagro found out how pointless they are, too, failed to get out of the 2nd round in his 250 last week, dropped 13 "positions," from 27 to 40.

Very suprised to see Isner in the top 20. Also Youzhny and Ferrero have really had good comebacks back up the ranking.

Remember when we were talking about the rankings and you said you were a little obsessive about rankings and I said maybe you should start a thread about them?
I forgot about that conversation until today, when ...

    poor gilles ... he's a shadow of his 2008 self! :(

Your post made me wonder who was the biggest loser on the men's tour last week ... turns out it was Crazy Dani -- down 22, from 74 to 96!

now may I submit for your approval?

5 Juan Martín del Potro (ARG) 6275 pts
6 Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) 5290 pts

sooo Davy needs at least 986 points to pass Del

    right?

I suppose that's true ..... Don't know how many points they award to the two finalists before the final is fought ..... could he possibly have enough if he gets into the final but loses to Mr. X? :?:

If Rafa or Pony doesn't come back in strong form soon, I predict a looong time as no 1 for Roger (as long as he stays healthy of course, something that is not a given if you look at the top10 as of today).

You could be right. So far, given the increasing number of dropouts from Indian Wells, there will be not too many points dropping off on March 22 (that is until the games begin) ;)

Del Potro's 180 points from the 2009 QF
    Gonzo's 90 pts from R16 2009
    Haas' 45 points from R32 2009
    Hewitt's 25 pts from R64 2009

    * what tournament was that?

    * I notice both players in that pic are wearing sleeves, so kubot/marach must be ?at the other end?

    * I had assumed Marach was married because he has a band on the 4th finger, left hand.

I'm afraid Roddick and Soderling will fall after the FO and Wimby. There's no was Robin will reach the finals and Roddick reaches the 4th round again. At Wimby there's no way Roddick will reach the Final.

At 8380 points last Monday, no. 2 Djoko's got 180 pts to defend at Indian Wells

At 7440 points last Monday, no. 3 Nadal's got 1,000 pts to defend at Indian Wells

At 7255 points last Monday, no. 4 Murray's 600 pts to defend at Indian Wells

I hope Rafa's in better shape than he seems to be, but if he's not, then doesn't it seem that the most likely switch in the top 4 rankings after the IW champ has been crowned w/b murray at no. 3 and nadal at no. 4???

Considering Fed and Nole are sure to keep their rankings, I'd say the only possible switch in the top 4 is Murray/Rafa. ;)

Murray only needs to get as far as Rafa in IW to pass him in the rankings...

    2. Roddick>Soderling
    3. Murray>Nadal

Cilic, Tsonga and Verdasco could get to #8 by winning the title if Roddick makes an early exit.

    The first part is possible.

However, Roddick has an easy draw, so it's hard to think the switch might happen.

I was doing some math (did I do it right ) in anticipation of the new Rankings after Indian Wells (just the top ten plus Ljubo) ... More w/b known after today's final. The formula used includes the points that will drop off on March 22 from last years' IW:

    Federer, Roger (SUI) 11,350 +45 -360 = 10,945

    Djokovic, Novak (SRB) 8,310 +90 -0 = 8,220

    Murray, Andy (GBR) 7,255 +180 -600 = 7,075

    Nadal, Rafael (ESP) 7,440 +360 -1000 = 6,800

    Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG) 6,275 +0 -180 = 6,095

    Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS) 5,290 +45 -0 = 5,245

    Soderling, Robin (SWE) 3,905 +360 -10 = 4,255

    Roddick, Andy (USA) 3,720 +600 or+1000 -360 = ???

    Cilic, Marin (CRO) 2,970 +25 (r2) -45 = 2,950

    Gonzalez, Fernando (CHI) 2,925 + 0 -90 = 2835
    . . .

    Ljubicic, Ivan (CRO) 1,520 +600 or +1000 -180 = ???

I didn't check all the points, but I'm pretty sure Cilic will only get 10 points since he lost his first match, even it's a 2nd round because he had a bye in the 1st.
