Well, grinders and baseline huggers are quite terrible for tennis too.

They are still better than serving machines. It is diffcult to say that the likes Karlovic,Raonic are actually tennis players.

Raonic has a baseline game at times. The fast grass doesn't help his baseline reactions.

Wait till Wimbledon...Milos will get a few chances to swing his forehands.

I can see that Raonic is definitely trying to develop a ground game, but he's definitely not on the level of being able to compete with Fed in rallies yet. Fed moved him around the court like a puppet, every point he knew exactly what to do. If Raonic finds a ground game then he'll be lethal, but right now his only hope against the big players is to win in tiebreaks.

Raonic' groundgame was troubling Federer a lot in Madrid, it's way better than Karlovic'

His reaction time seems a bit slowish though. The slower conditions of Wimbledon will help him.

Raonic's forehand is good, but he can't move worth crap. He just isn't very athletic. I don't think he'll ever be as good as Roddick was. He'll have a good career though.

He's a clown. No clutch serve (misses first serves on important points), and has no ground game or movement. Only thing he does well ( compared to other giraffes) is return serves. Raonic also has a decent volley.

He can get hot on his ground game like Isner. Though at least he has some ground game compared to Karlovic. Serve is great on some days, and others days like today it was no use. Can Volley well but rarely at the net today.

Uhm, no he does not have top 5 potential. Maybe if he can up his game. But I will remain doubtful until that actually happens.

He's 'only' 6'5'' or 6'6'', same as guys like DelPo/Berdych/Cilic who break more frequently but don't have nearly the same serve as he does. A positive is he doesn't miss nearly as many returns as Isner and moves pretty well so I think he has more potential than Isner does (Isner's confidence in tight sets is just crazy high recently, never misses first serves in crucial moments).

Still would back him to possibly make top 5 or better, simply has too many tools -- whether or not he gets the mentality of a top 5 player to get there will be interesting.

Federer was watchable back then and people could see his talent. Raonic is simliar to Isner, and Querrey. Most likely Raonic will be top ten and nothing more. Hope I am wrong for Canadian Tennis.

Like scraper Peliwo and Poppsicle game better.Dancevic has far more talent than all the other Canadian Players.....nothing came out of him for mulitple reasons that are unknown.

Cilic, Del Potro, and Berdych simliar with way better groundgame and movement.

He's in the quarters with a win over berdych, got a realistic shot to go to the semis over WaWa so yes he's got top 5 potential

He still overrated, bad movement at times, crap ros, and his ground game falls apart at times. Great Serve and better volleys than expected in this baseline oriented era.

He will improve for sure....and hopefully it does take him to top 10 at least.Mainstay at the top 25 for 10 years barring injury for sure.

Cincinatti SF and a good run at the US....he could be knocking at the top 10 by the end of Paris Masters.

People (myself included) are desperate for someone new to step up and challenge the status quo. It probably helps his popularity that he's North American.

Right now, he looks like he has the best shot at future majors compared to everyone else in his crop (minus Del Potro, if you lump him in Raonic's crop.)

How does Raonic keep on losing all those tiebreaks with a first and second serve like that??? It's just plain sad.

The last 3 matches I've seen of him, he lost 4 out of 4 TBs

He got passive since he expected to with those breakers. It was pretty weird seeing him being as far back in the baseline like Monfils.

Hoping for Wawrinka to hit the error.....while the 1st set was the opposite what he was producing latter on. Taking it to Wawrinka and forcing errors.

Everyone knocking Raonic's ranking knows he's defending 0 points at this year's US Open right?

Since he's made the QF at Cincy he should be seeded 16th for the Open, and will climb at least another spot or two even if he goes out early. He could knocking on the door of top 10 by the end of the open.

Pretty good for a 21 year old.

    He's ranked 16 come Monday.

I still want a worthy successor to Joachim Johansson sans all the injuries.

Karlovic got to number 14 in the world, so it's expected that Raonic get to roughly 14, too. Very similar players; big serves, big forehands, tall and talentless.

I don't have to be ranked to call someone talentless (did you mean talented or talentless? Pick one, talentedless isn't a word). I'm pretty sure no one on this forum is ranked. Simon Cowell is a great judge, but Simon Cowell can't sing.

There's one guy, I don't really remember his name, but he's 6'5, has a big serve and a big forehand, and won a US Open a while back. He's doing quite well actually.

Raonic is like 10 times better from the ground than Karlovic. Karlovic doesn't have a big forehand in any way.

Very solid player, seems like the best of the young guns mentally, physically, and in terms of maturity.

Needs to get more match pressure under his feet, and has to win a few of those close ones (lost to Federer twice after winning the 1st set in a best of 3, winning would have been huge confidence wise).

Saw Raonic in person today, caught the end of the second set and all of the third.

Anyone who thinks he's just a serve is nuts. He's got talent, his forehand is good, and he likes to move forward. His serve is terrifying when you see it up close though. He hit one at 143 that you could hardly see, and he hit an 85mph kicker that bounced over Stan's head.

Raonic is terrible, this guy will never win a major. He'll be lucky to reach a major SF. His current generation hasn't matured yet, and he's playing in an extremely weak era, but still can't do well. He has nothing but a serve, and the ground game of isner (which is occasionally decent), and his serve isn't clutch. He'll be lucky to have the level of success of John Isner, Berdych, or Cilic. I see him having a career similar to Sam Querrey.

You guys are smoking something if you're even comparing this guy to karlovic, the only similarity is the big serve. He's capable of competing with Fed from the ground, and he can still improve! Just imagine what a monster Raonic will be if he improves his return game.

also the bottom of the net seems to be a magnet for his bh service return when he does try and do more than loop/block it back.

No one playing on the ATP World Tour can be considered talentless. If he is, you're implying that everyone that is that tall is capable of have a big serve and big forehand like that, and they are all capable of being top 20 in the world. Clearly it doesn't work like that.

I'm undecided on top 5 potential for Raonic. If he manages to develop the weak areas of his game even marginally, and a new crop of strong youngsters doesn't come along soon it will probably happen.

In the meanwhile, I am enjoying seeing Fiasco a full ten positions back of Raonic in the latest rankings.

Roddick moves 20 times better than Raonic. Roddick was top 5 with monster forehands and serve.

Raonic doesn't always bring the heat of the forehand...it just a well placed aggressive shot. It doesn't kill through the court like Roddick in 03.

you must not have watched his match with wawrinka @ cinci. he hit a lot of fh winners from behind the baseline. that said he doesn't try and hit a winner on every ball.
