What's with the trend of looking up at their boxes, pumping their fists or thumping their chests?

What's next? a little breast feeding from mommy in between games?

Nadal, Djokovic, S;oderling, all of them looks at their coaches all the time!

Fed is the man, he even played without a couch and doesn't even look at his wife..haha!

I'd even say real women don't look up at their boxes. There have always been players who look at their boxes occasionally (usually after a win), and a few who look to their boxes regularly.

But, now there seems to be an explosion of male and female players who look at their boxes constantly -- to express their frustration, to vent their anger, to celebrate a point, to get a recommendation on whether to challenge a line call, for support, to decide whether to call the trainer, and simply out of habit. Those players should be weened of this practice.

Not that it should really matter to me, but it sort of ruins the whole lone-gladiator aspect of the sport. Moreover, some of the "looking" involves coaching.

Pathetic thread. Just pathetic. Desperate attempt of couple of *******s to forget triple spanking Fed received from Djokovic recently.

Be prepared though. More Fed spanking with chest thumping and box looking is coming, like it or not.

I even think that this constant complaining is very bad for the female players. greats nearly never complain, maybe once or twice in a match.

But girls like jankovic or petrova complain all the time, at least 10 times a match. they even rant at their coaches. this really hurts their game because they play with anger which is never good.

I even think that novak still complains too much, despite being the best player. if he is in a mini slump and looses 3 points in a row he will complain and bring himself out of his rhythm.

I think just the tennis he is already as good as peak fed and peak nadal, but he lacks their mental calmness. if he wants to stay at the top consistenly like they where he needs to learn this.

complaining is very bad for your game, guys like safin and goran could have won much more if they had controlled their temper.

greats like sampras and borg where cold as ice. even if they had a bad day they would just suck it up and fight through without showing emotions, even when they eventually lost.

Save your kleenex for Fed. He will need them.

Point out the hate in my post? Please?

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was actually criticizing Nadal.

How does it feel to be wrong?

Fed has denied his lover a few grand slams, so he's got novak's head shoved up his whoopsidaisy.

BTW I like novak the most out of the big 3. I'm certainly no *******.

But I believe novak could do even better (at least over a long run) if he was mentally more stable.

novak is the best right now, but for being a long term no.1 it's also important to win on a bad day and not being pissed off by some bad games.
I actually think novak has some upside left in the mental area. not that he is weak mentally but not as calm as fed and nadal.

I actually like when they show emotion or look to the their box to get fired up.

  21. Perhaps there is a reason Federer doesn't care to look up at Mirka. I dunno.

Anyway, Mike, can you email me?

    Safin's '02 Box was unique
    [IMG]

In his case it was good and bad. Some boxes can fire you up. This box did that yet also drained him. By the Aussie Open semifinal against Hass, Safins legs began to buckle.

He was simply playing 4x as much as any other that tournament.

Nice box (pun intended)!! Back in the good old days, a player had his coach and maybe a few family members in the box. Now everyone has a 'team' with the coach, physio, agent, personal shopper, family members, etc. It's like the complete staff for an entire NBA team.

3 physio trainers to keep Safin it tip top condition? Seems a little excessive. I'm sure they went overboard in their workout routine.

I would deem that illegal coaching, deny them the right to challenge and dock a penalty point for it.

Btw I heard that Uncle Tony and Nadal have been practising their hand signals in preparation for this clay swing. Of course Nadal beat Federer in 3 finals in 2006, but he needed Tony's help to do it. If Tony hadn't been coaching him illegally it would have been 3 W's to Federer.

Hell Federer even called him on it during the Rome final in the 3rd set he said "stop it Tony".

Who cares if the players look up at their boxes? I could not care less.

Also, Federer does look up at Mirka from time to time. I have seen Mirka give Fed signals, thumbs up, encouragement, etc., many times before over the years.

    Nadal,

    Specially when he's injured,

Or before and after a double fault.

And everytime that he goes to the towel.

    Fake.

Real men are secure enough to allow players to constantly win using the same tactic of the high ball to their backhand for over half a decade.

I remember watching Andy Murray playing a match at AO 2011. After missing a running slice, he glared at his box and yelled "WHY DID YOU TEACH ME THAT F*CKING SHOT?!?!?!?" Of course, you couldn't hear it on the TV, but I read his lips. Hilarious!
