I was actually there for the Novikov/Janowicz match last year and Noivkov looked like the much better player that day. How quickly things have changed.

On a side note, for this week's futures tourney in Turkey looked like there were quite a few Trojans playing in it (Sarmiento, Johnson, Wang, and De Vroome) and even their asst, Kwinta, was entered into the dubbs as well.

Lastly, has anyone noticed how well Tahir has done the last two weeks? Made it quite far last week in Rochester and is into the semis this week. He's also beaten some pretty strong players along the way. I wonder if he can keep this up going into the fall, if so, he should be looking at playing top 3 for Duke.

good stuff from tahir, if only he had found that level a few months earlier instead of flopping vs ucla that match would have been very interesting

and nice win from cunha over a top 300 guy, wish him well in his attempt at the pros

If you took everything on this forum to heart you would think that 75% of matches involve a sick player.

Oh yeah, all three of those 5 setters in the first round of Grand Slams really shows that he's terrible, right?

Interesting development and new sponsor for Rhyne Williams. Who says good things don't come to pro tennis players outside the top 50? Details of the deal are not disclosed but whatever the amount is, it was worth a press release and noting. Outside of pure results Williams will have to earn it to some degree by posting a blog on their web site.

I've been off the grid for a while and just peeked at the rankings today for the first time in months. That's awesome that Stevie has cracked the top 100! Basically insures entry to the slams when you're that high.

Stevie is currently the #7 American and I'm willing to bet that by next year at this time he will be #4, leaping over Russell, Blake and either Kudla or Sock. However, Harrison and Williams could start rising too.

Bradley Klahn loses in 3 to Alex Kuznetsov in the Binghamton finals though he and Michael Venus (LSU) won the doubles title over JP Smith (Tenn)/Adam Feeney.

Henrique Cunha lost 6-4 7-5 to world #200 in the 2nd round of Qualies of ATP 250 in Gstaad. Cunha was 3 of 17 on break chances so he was getting a lot of good looks.

Kevin King just beat Ginepri 6-4 in the 3rd to make his 1st tour level MD. Ginepri donated a couple pts in that last game though. Maybe a slight case of nerves.

yes, he definitely used his WC & now has banked some $.

Now he just needs to play off his trolley & get lucky in next one...

Lopez will be tough but he can "go away" for a while -however, he is overdue to make a run at the Open.
Not done much since 2010 (4th Round).

Saw him at the NCAA Regional in Oxford, MS when Memphis beat them. He was helping in some capacity at that time. He disappeared though before the match was over. He's a good addition to the staff.

Yea, neither are 1200 of the 1500 player with an ATP ranking. They should all be a good example and just quit.

He's now in the year end challenger finals. For the best 8 challenger players of the season.

That guy we all laughed at for saying he was better than Johnson, well... maybe we were the fools.

No, i am very sorry for any confusion i have caused.
In fact, Arthur ashe and jimmy connors actually played college and professional era in a bygone era. Together, as opponents, they famously contested the 1975 men's singles final at wimbledon. I remember watching that match intently as a young beginner with my sawed-off bancroft and my foam ball inside the house.
i have not stopped playing. today, jimmy is in his early 60's. arthur would be even older were he alive today!

You know, i was kidding. I am guessing your question was rhetorical. my stuff was not even funny. I was Just attempting some satire about the contrast in stature of college players who turned pro in the 60s and 70s and the current or recent era college-to-pro guys. I am sorry i did not make that clear. I sort of just assumed people might get it.
Terribly sorry. Please forgive me. The FILAppoussis rejection letter was funny to me. I even like intentionally misspelling his name.

Cunha lost 6-2 7-5 to Gianluigi Quinzi who is considered to be an extreme talent and could be a future slam winner.
