One important point that many posts in this thread misses entirely is that taking a motrin after (or before) a match once or twice or even thrice a week, does not qualify as chronic use. You gotta remember there are folks with arthritis who take this stuff around the clock every single day. That is where the kidney damage etc is going to show up, not in sporadic use.

^^^ Exactly. I play 4-5 times a week and after reading all the research, etc. I'd be fine taking 2 advil before/after my matches, although I try to take as little as possible which is usually just a few times a week. Like you said there's a big difference between taking 400mg 2-5 times a week vs. taking it around the clock 24/7.

On a related note, I wonder if there are any supplements or other things us older guys can do to help us recover better/faster. I'm 38 and play 4-5 times a week, plus I work out 4-5 times a week as well, and it seems like I'm always sore lol.

I'm just starting to look into this, and I don't mean to derail the thread, but I'm curious if anyone has any insights into aiding your body's recovery efforts @ 40+ years old.
